My daughter is 6 and wants to learn to knit. I think she could do it. She has very good fine motor skills and does a great job with embroidery (thanks to Montessori!). I have done some knitting in the past but haven't done any in awhile. I thought I'd get a book geared toward kids and we could do it this summer. Any suggestions for a good kids book? Is she to young?

I don't know of any book suggestions but I wanted to say my 8 yo DD just learned how to knit. She actually taught me! What has helped both of us is watching videos on youtube or knitting sites. We pause it and re-play sections where we need more practice.
My mom got her some thicker (I'm new so I don't know the correct terminology for sizes) Bamboo needles from Michael's that seem to be the perfect length. Then her school teacher gave her some rubber-y ones, and we got a pair of thin long metal ones. That way she has a variety to play around with. As it is right now, she prefers the bigger Bamboo ones.

I have started to teach my 7.5 year old to knit...probably started four or five months ago. She has surprised me...she has a perfect gauge, and has since the first time we put the needles in her hands!
She is still working on rectangles (we're going to make a purse out of her next one), but is excited to start something a little bigger, soon! My next door neighbor is german and says that by the time she was seven, she was making socks for the family.
