HELP! Child Care Center discontinuing cloth diapers

Hi,

I just got an email from our child care center saying that as of July 1st they will no longer allow cloth diapers. They cite NAEYC emerging criteria 5.A.8 which basically says child centers should use disposable diapers or pull-ups unless a health professional documents a medical need to use cloth.

Does anyone have any links to studies or articles that show the health benefits for using cloth? I suppose I can try to ask our ped for a letter. He's fairly middle-of-the-road so I'm not sure what he'll say. I guess I could just lie and say that every time we've tried a 'sposie she gets a horrible rash.

i think your best bet is to get a drs note. what a dumb policy! i don't see how cloth would spread more germs than sposies??

I would definitely go for the Drs note... our DS is only in a nursery situation once a week but we had to get a note from his ped saying he was allergic to sposies.

I don't get it-- the center was providing and laundering cloth diapers before?

i worked at a center that had a diaper service come to it as a free service to parents. maybe thats what this center does.

Hi,

The Center used a service for prefolds and parents supplied the covers. We paid a nominal fee ($5-15 a month depending on number of days per week in care). My LO is only there 2 days a week now but will start full-time in Sept when I go back to work. Right now I drop of clean covers and bring home the soiled ones each day that she is there.

I left a message for my ped. I'm so annoyed by this decision that I'm sure I'm not even thinking straight :-)
