Anyone go to USU or live in Logan, UT?

Hi guys! We are trying to decide between University of Alaska and USU. One of the major deciding factors is that we aren't LDS, and have heard some horror stories about not being LDS in a predominantly LDS town. Is it really that bad? Will my boys have issues at school? Will we not be left to ourselves if we move there? The school sounds absolutely wonderful, but I want to make sure that we aren't getting in over our heads! Any advice would be welcome! My dh was stationed at Hill AFB a while back and didn't have any issues, but that's before he had us and he knew even then that some of the smaller towns weren't as accepting as others.

What about the U of U? Salt Lake is awesome!

I've never lived in Logan, so I don't have experience with that, but I am not LDS and have plenty of open-minded friends here (Davis County, formally in SLC)

Cool! Yeah my dh used to live in Davis County. The only thing holding us back from UofU is that it doesn't have family housing that would work for us (only 2bdr, we need 3 for all of us!) and getting housing and having to worry about all those bills with me and dh both being full time students just wouldn't work..

I went to USU and lived there for 4 years. I loved the area (would move back in a heartbeat if DH could get a job up there) and the school was great. I am LDS, but in my experience people are very open-minded there. Most of my roommates weren't LDS and I enjoyed the diversity on campus.

I live in Logan and I am not LDS. I it here. Love it love it love it. My DH goes to USU and he adores it there as well. IME, people in Logan are much more open-minded and laid back than in other areas of the state. We've never been bothered about religious stuff, although many people just assume we're LDS and they'll include "church-related" references in conversation with us, but we just nod along. More often than not, people will ask first ("Are you LDS?") before they get in too deep about a discussion about something, but even then... it rarely comes up. (in my experience, anyway) So I wouldn't let that worry you. Logan seems much more diverse than other parts of the state (apart from SLC); I think the university and local industries draw a healthy variety of folks up here. And it's a small town, absolutely gorgeous, lots of outdoor activities, very safe community for kids. I'd happily settle down here.

thank you for the replies everyone! We actually ended up calling UofU about family housing and it turns out they have a whole website dedicated to it! (UofU actually has more of what we wanted than USU, we just nixed it b/c of housing) That's why we couldn't find it We are applying there in the fall for next year! ::: Thank you all for your replies!

The U is really great, and it's very diverse. My husband works for the university hospital. =)

for sure! We really want to come for the Spring, but I really get nervous about moving in winter....so next fall will probably be the winner, but who knows?
