Hi guys! We are trying to decide between University of Alaska and USU. One of the major deciding factors is that we aren't LDS, and have heard some horror stories about not being LDS in a predominantly LDS town. Is it really that bad? Will my boys have issues at school? Will we not be left to ourselves if we move there? The school sounds absolutely wonderful, but I want to make sure that we aren't getting in over our heads! Any advice would be welcome! My dh was stationed at Hill AFB a while back and didn't have any issues, but that's before he had us and he knew even then that some of the smaller towns weren't as accepting as others.

it here. Love it love it love it. My DH goes to USU and he adores it there as well. IME, people in Logan are much more open-minded and laid back than in other areas of the state. We've never been bothered about religious stuff, although many people just assume we're LDS and they'll include "church-related" references in conversation with us, but we just nod along. More often than not, people will ask first ("Are you LDS?") before they get in too deep about a discussion about something, but even then... it rarely comes up. (in my experience, anyway) So I wouldn't let that worry you. Logan seems much more diverse than other parts of the state (apart from SLC); I think the university and local industries draw a healthy variety of folks up here. And it's a small town, absolutely gorgeous, lots of outdoor activities, very safe community for kids. I'd happily settle down here.
