California, Medi-cal, and Homebirth...

I met with the midwife in our area that does homebirth today and I loved her. We are going to be on Medical for this pregnancy (there is a slight possibility it could be AIM). She said that AIM was covering some of the expenses for homebirth, but Medi-cal wasn't. Has anyone had any luck getting Medi-cal to cover any of their birth and what did you do? If they aren't able to cover some of it, then I probably won't be able to have a home birth. Thanks!!!

from what i understand medi-cal will cover a birth center, but not a home birth. and they jerk midwives around to get their payments in a timely way...

I had homebirth while on medi-cal, and the only thing that I could get them to cover was some blood tests and an ultrasound. The midwives I had have me on a $30 a month payment plan. They did give me a lower rate for me being low income...$2800 instead of the normal $4000. I should have it paid off in the next 10 years

Well, this is news to me...
I know there are CPM's who are LM's in California who DO accept Medi-cal.

This is the link for midwives who wish to enroll with Medi-cal.
There is more information at the medi-cal website too.
I'm sure not ALL midwives in Ca accept Medi-cal, but it is possible.

Oh, new info... apparently NEW medi-cal numbers are NOT being issued to new providers at this time. There is a freeze in place because of rampant medi-cal fraud.
So, you can apply but you won't get a number and you can't bill them....
fun fun.....
Grrrr
