I'm going to do corn and beans, but quite frankly I don't want a million squash. Can I do 1/3 squash, 1/3 zucchini, and 1/3 cucumbers for ground-cover of the Three Sisters?

I sure hope so, I already planted mine that way.
I also planted pumpkin and watermelon. |
I've got a 4' corn variety (clearly a hybrid, but in this climate hybrid corn is the only way to go) & a 7' overall clearance to the top of my hoop frame.
Crossing fingers! If I get just one melon I'll be stoked

I am starting mine this weekend since i just found out about it a few weeks ago. I am going to use sugar pumpkins and maybe some cucumbers. Watermelons I believe need a lot of heat and a lot of water. So I wasn't even going to bother with them. Most watermelon around here is grown in Eastern Oregon.
I read somewhere else that you can put other cool crops in there like lettuce. I was thinking of putting some cauliflower in there to see how that goes.

Well, zucchini *are* squash.
But yeah. I've done crookneck, zucchini, lemon cukes, and pumpkin before.
Of course, the squash vine borers will eat any and all of those.
: THey don't always go for the cukes if there's squash. So that year, I had a moderate amount of lemon cukes and very few squash.
