It was an "adult" initiation ceremony. It appears the boys died from massive blood loss.

Please note that news-related topics must be about the forum topic itself, rather than the individual newsmakers. From our N&CE closure notice:

Quote:
We will allow members to discuss news items in appropriate parenting forums such as breastfeeding items in lactivism, birth related items in the birth forums or chickenpox outbreaks in Health & Healing. However, keep in mind that threads still need to remain on-topic for the forum and should not be about individuals but about the general topic.
Thanks!

Isn't teen boys dying from circumcision related to the Case Against Circumcision? If not, I'm sorry and feel free to delete the post. I just thought it was relevant.

I was just asking that the discussion be about the topic not the individual incident, that's all

Whats so horrible about this is that its not unusual. We are coming up on "circumcision season" in the parts of Africa that practice it and every year you will see news stories of the death tolls from different parts of the region. Some countries are doing their best to clamp down on this, but without the same international pressure/support being put down against FGM, we are not going to see big change in the number of deaths. A dead child is as much of a crime if its a dead boy, as if its is a dead girl. America cannot continue to ignore this season of death just to keep up the status quo in its own country.

How can people say circumcision is the great new tool to fight AIDS when the country with one of the highest circ rates in the western world also has South Africa levels of AIDS cases in its own capital? Or in the region where "we" are trying to spread circ to prevent AIDS, incidents like the one in this article are not uncommon.

Its like we are shooting ourselves in the foot while we shoot our neighbor in the back.
