Ugg I always see articles about breastfeeding in magazines and think its really good. Well yesterday when I was taking Ds to his 2 yr cheakup there was a "known magazine" (not sure if i can name it here) with the "top ten reasons to bottlefeed" WOw. I was a little irked. I can only imagine its the formula companys loosing money from more people breastfeeding so now there trying to push the whole bottle feeding agian. and really it had some dumb reasons. It was like not even comparable to breastfeeding benefits. and one topic was about how you possibly "could do both if you wanted.":

I found the issue online but I am not sure if I could post it?? BTW It is a cover page and makes it seem like this is the thing to do. Although the one I found for it online is talking about how to bottlefeed. In the mag. it had statistics of how most moms supplement and most babies are not breastfed after 3 months. Like its giving people a reason to not feel guilty about taking your baby off the breast to give it some formula for "convenience"


BTW this magazine has alot of pro breastfeeding info but I was kinda put off by the way they was kind of promoting this.

I saw that too at my OBs office! He saw me looking at it (he knows I BFed Ds until he was 3 still wish it was longer) and said ohh I can't stand those magazines I thought I got rid of them all we want mothers to nurse here! :::

eta: I can think of one good reason to bottle feed -- Momma can't breastfeed! There you are. I'm a journalist now, can I get my panelist invitation on The View already?

These days even lactivists are supposed to be okay with bottlefeeding. So it's really not surprising that magazines are doing the same thing. When even supporters of breastfeeding are expected to be okay with the "I want to use formula" line...

Exactly. Bottlefeeding is FINE when needed. But it's like having a health magazine with a cover "Top Ten Reasons to get on Insulin" or something. It's a great backup, when necessary! It's so odd to me that it would be promoted. UGH!

Exactly.
This magazine cover is one of the many contributing factors to the vast majority of mothers choosing not to breastfeed!

Well, what did you expect? I have a feeling that the pendulum is swinging the other way right now - remember the Atlantic article? We're back to "sure breast is great but formula children turn out just as well".
