So they say I have a UTI

and they are calling in antibiotics for me. Whatever, that's fine, I want to be healthy.

But is it weird that I haven't experienced any symptoms? I don't think I've ever had one before, but then again, since I'm not feeling anything, maybe I've had them and didn't notice.

What sx have you ladies experienced with a UTI?

I had one earlier in the pregnancy... my midwife had me take cranberry and garlic supplements and then tested me again and it was gone. I never had any symptoms either and when I asked her about that she says it is not uncommon and that it was a very mild UTI.

Not in your DDC, but just wanted to say that I'm really prone to UTI's and have gotten about one a year since I was about 9 years old. It sucks. Anyway, I had one early on in my last pregnancy, and it was the ONLY one I've ever had where I had absolutely no symptoms. It was stubborn, too. I ended up needing two courses of abx to clear it up.

When I get a UTI when I am not pregnant, symptoms usually include the frequent urge to urinate, burning/stinging while urinating, lower abdominal pain, and/or lower back pain.

UTIs suck. I hope yours gets cleared up quickly, and that you continue to be symptom free.

apparently progesterone and the other hormones of pregnancy relax the bladder so you don't always have symptoms like you would when not pg. It's common to have an asymptomatic UTI during pregnancy

If you don't get the typical symptoms how do you know you have one??

Mine was found when my mw did a routine urinalysis at my first visit. I imagine if you're peeing on sticks, you'll be able to see something elevated that would tip you or your mw off to a possible issue.

usually they do a dip stick at my normal appts and never said anything (so I"m not sure if they test for it), but yesterday I had my 1 hr glucose test, bloodwork, urinalysis - and that's when they found it.

I have had two already this pregnancy. I get them alot anyways. Mine hit me like a ton of bricks.
I usually will feel off a day or two before. Nothing really screaming at me but just not "myself" then by the time I pee and it starts burning it goes downhill really really fast that by a few hours later I am in terrible pain and feeling the need to pee around the clock. I have actually had them so bad that morning I feel the burning pee and by that night I have had to go to the ER because I am in tears and my bladder is on fire. I think that I have had them so much that this is why I can tell When I am getting one. Also my pee will have a very weird odor.

It's not abnormal that you don't have any symptoms. A certain percentage of UTIs (I think 1/3) are asymptomatic. That's the reason screening for "asymptomatic bacteriuria" or a UTI with symptoms is routine by most care providers. They still carry the same risks of preterm labor, etc. whether you have symptoms or not and should be treated (either naturally or with antibiotics) promptly.
