Be Honest - Updated

I am so close to switching to cloth. I have an 8 mo DD and am nervous about it though. I feel like it will be a pain, but worth it, but still a pain! So be honest with me, is it annoying and you just put up with it, or is it no big deal?

FYI: I think we would start by trying one size pockets and go from there.

Update: I'm switching! You ladies have all convinced me. No I have to figure out what to buy, where to buy them, and how to not go bankrupt in the process! Ahh!!

We switched to cloth when my DS was 3 months old and used primarily prefolds and my one-size covers for me and one-size pockets for my husband.

I can honestly say that it was an easy transition--we are talking 3 extra loads of laundry a week if you wash every 2-3 days. The only thing that took some getting used to was dealing with more solid/solid poop when DS started eating solids and even that wasn't bad most times it rolls off.

My DH was REALLY hesitant but with the pockets they are just like disposables just velcro or snap them on and go!

It's helped with diaper rash, we save SO much money not buying sposies, and feel so much better not setting out a HUGE bag of sposies for the landfill each week. Plus I think it has helped with potty training DS is 20 months and almost there.

I don't find it a pain at all...in fact I take really bizarre pleasure in washing diapers. I LOVE hanging them out and bringing them in, stuffing the pockets, and having this lovely pile of clean, folded, colorful diapers. That to me is pure happiness!

Maybe I've just been doing it too long and need some new hobbies

Honestly, it's a tad on the annoying side. My guy is 8 months so we go through fewer dipes than before so less laundry. But I occasionally drag my feet to stuff my pocket dipes. I see the appeal of prefolds: no stuffing.

The savings, feeling good about what's on my guy's butt and what's (not) going into the environment, outweighs the slight pain of diaper laundry.

Not a pain!!!! I love cloth.

It was never a pain when DD was in cloth. I loved folding fresh, clean diapers. I'd say one size pockets would be the easiest way to start. Or you could trifold prefolds into covers too.

I do find it to be a pain sometimes... I hate laundry and our washer/dryer is upstairs so on days I am doing diaper wash I spend a lot of time going up and down but really? So worth it! DS gets horrible rashes from sposies and the money savings are really obvious since we haven't had to buy diapers since he was born and the majority of our stash was gifted to us. I wouldn't do anything else.

I started when DS was 7 months old and I really do enjoy it. The only thing I would consider a pain is that I have a FL washer and it takes a little more to get them clean. If I had a top loader I would be thrilled!

I totally don't think it's a pain and I have CDed two babes and gearing up for a third! Any small amount of extra work (emphasis on the SMALL, it's really not that difficult) is so worth it when you consider the pleasure of putting adorable, healthy diapers on your baby's bum!

Sometimes a pain, but totally worth it. The only thing that really irriates me is stuffing pockets....so I'm gradually switching to pf's and fitteds. Yay!

Sometimes it is a pain and I want to go back to sposies but then again...cloth covers are so much cuter, I also sew my own fitted pocket diapers so I always have new diapers (whenever I feel like sewing) and something to look forward to. I have two kids in diapers right now and do two extra loads of laundry every week. I HATE laundry but I NEVER get tired of pulling fresh, clean diapers out of the machine and hang them up to dry them.

I love it...and even though it does get annoying every now and then, I would never switch back to 100% sposies (I use one a day for nighttime).

I was totally ::: over them until a little recently, but I think it's because I'm tired of diapering period. Our washer/dryer is off the livingroom so for us it was a really big NO BIG WHOOP.

I'm really, really glad that we cloth diaper. As stated, the only pain is stuffing the pocket diapers, so my DH helps with that mainly. We use pre-folds during the day and bumgenius 3.0 at night.

I don't find it a pain at all. I'm kind-of the anal type sometimes and I like stuffing them. I have certain inserts that I put in certain pockets and I like the feeling of having everything all set the way I want them

I would really suggest getting a few aio's as they are the most similar to sposies and seeing how you like them. They will give you a taste of cloth and then you can go from there. And you definately don't have to do all or nothing cloth. You can do whatever works for your family and your situation.

i love cloth. i am somewhat of a diaper freak though. both of my neighbors cd and they both make fun of me and tell me i have too much time on my hands, lol. it isn't that much of a pain. there are days when i don't feel like folding laundry, but those are the days i just leave the diapers in the basket and yank them out as needed. those days are few and far between though!

I think in the very, very beginning I found it slightly annoying, but it quickly became routine and not annoying after all. I use mostly prefolds and covers, but I have two or three pocket dipes. And then when DD was in the squirmy-wormy stage and I had to try and get the darn prefolds on her while she tried to take off. At that point I made some snapping fitteds and the problem was pretty much solved.

At this point (DD is 20 months) we only use diapers at night and on outings anymore-- she's 100% accident-free when bare-butt and awake. As soon as she gets the hang of pulling the undies up and down, waking up, and using public toilets, she'll be completely potty-trained. I think that's at least in part due to using the cloth diapers.
The only part I find annoying now is remembering to wash diapers at least once a week so they don't stink too bad, 'cause I have trouble remembering when I have plenty of clean ones...

no big deal (but we use a service, so my opinion may not count ).
a little extra trouble and work, but worth it.

I'm trying to get 5-10 more diapers so I don't get to the bottom of my stash so easily.

i lurve cloth...its not a hassle at all

poop is poop and it has to be dealth with weather in cloth or plastic. pee stinks a lot more in sposies to me though.

aside from the environmental and comfort considerations, you're really just choosing btw laundry and garbage....

Not Annoying

Honestly, we curse disposables when we have no other choice but to use them.

All of our messy poop leaks have been in disposables, never cloth. The smell of most disposable diapers make DH feel ill.

Dumping diapers in the washing machine is not a lot trouble. I'm more annoyed when we run out of disposables and have to make a special trip out.
