He is back home with me for now. They originally said that the steroid shot would take about an hour to start to have an effect and they have since told me that it can take up to two weeks. His legs seem to be about the same as they were this morning, and he doesn't seem to be in any pain.
His prognosis seems good if the paralysis starts to reverse. The vet said he would likely have to be on anti-inflammatories for the rest of his life, but that is no big deal for me, or for him other than taxing his liver eventually. The vet also said that he could suddenly become completely paralyzed too, which would mean he would need to be put down asap. If it happens on a weekend, I am going to have to wait for Monday, so I am hoping and praying that this weekend goes uneventfully. I don't want him to be in pain, but I also just don't have the money. It is not a matter of priorities, it just isn't there.
For now, he is in my spare bedroom with a soft, cushy bed (adult size), his carrier with a soft blanket in it, a large window that I left halfway open and a chair pushed up against it so he can get up and down easily, his food/water/litter box, and a few toys on the floor. I figure my son and I will visit with him many times a day as well, so he should be a bit happier than at a noisy, smelly vet's office for the next couple of weeks. The vet said he would be fine in a confined room too, so I am really hoping that this helps.
Crossing my fingers again. I am just so thankful that the end is not here yet.
