what are the pros of homebirth - Page 2

Very low interventions, there for decreasing the risk for C-section and other icky stuff.

The horrible bacterias you can pick up at a hospital are scary!

The care you get from a MW is amazing, they truly get to know you. You are not just another patient. They seem to truly care about everything. They talk to you get to know you.

Everything comes to you, that is amazing not a minor luxury as a PP stated

Hey not having to go anywhere is niiiiiiiice.

You see everything that happens with your birth Here in FL some hospitals have banned camera's in the delivery rooms and the OR...seem fishy eh?

You are free to move about, eat, be loud, get your labor going.

Your SO can catch the baby!

This totally. I would have absolutely caved and got the epidural and who knows what would have happened then. I'm so happy to have stayed painfully natural at home.

Yesterday I had lunch with a friend that has twins a few months older than my son. She said "Wasn't it so weird to have had your baby at home?" And I couldn't think of one moment where it felt anything but normal. I never once felt strange or out of place. It was the most comfortable feeling to be in MY home. And now when I look at that room I feel so happy that my son was born there. I can't imagine how terribly miserable I would have been at the hospital. I get freaked out just thinking about getting naked there, let alone having my baby there.

How empowered and strong I will feel when I have achieved a beautiful HB.

How good it will feel to tell our amazing birth story to our skeptical family and friends.

How happy I will be to have a drug-free newborn looking up at me.

That was the highlight of my home birth.

This is what I imagined for my first birth, which turned into an emergency cesarean. I can't wait to have that experience with DH, DS and our new baby.

My planned HB ended up as a hospital transfer, but I don't regret a minute (or a dollar) of that investment, because I ended up laboring for two full days at home and showing up at the hospital only having to push the baby out. If I had been at the hospital, I would DEFINITELY have ended up with a million interventions -- Pitocin for sure, and probably a C-section if the labor went that long in the hospital. My HB plan meant that I was able to labor for two days in peace and tranquility, and birth my daughter without unnecessary interventions... most especially, without anybody cutting me open.

The best part of laboring at home: being able to walk around outside in the sunshine!

The pros are that you:

Actually get to be a happy mama!

Only have people there that you want to be there (no nasty/mean nurses/docs ignoring your desires)

No c/s!!!!

A baby that is awake and not drugged

Your own bed for recovery, relaxation, and breastfeeding

Walking around naked!

No nasty goop in the baby's eyes

no hospital germs

a safe relaxing atmosphere to allow nature to take its course

nobody takes your baby away right after the birth

Getting delicious food right after birth - peanut butter and honey toast and my mom's potato soup. so comforting!

Feeling honored and special, rather than an annoying thing. Actually getting what I wanted and needed, and not having to fight for it!

breastfeeding success ... so many factors related to this. (i.e. nurses taking baby away several times a day in a hosp, lactation nurses with bad advice, etc.)

hubby being so proud and supportive (instead of scared stiff with the scare tactics and dead baby card of the ob)

We hope you share your paper with us!!!

I posted before I read all the replies and now I am cracking up about how many of us were loving our peanut butter toast after giving birth! How funny!
