Is there a cheaper knock off to this sling?

Ok so a friend has a sling that I LOVE and the brand is Sierna and Lilly. I looked it up to buy one and it is $140.00!!!!!!!!!!! I really really love this one and tried it with DD and she loves it but we have had a hard time with other types..
I like how it is "bucket like"
Anyone know of a cheap knock off that is very similar to this one?

Honestly bucket-like is not your best bet with a sling. It can make it harder to position the baby safely, because it promotes a curled-up position where the baby's chin in towards his chest, which compromises the airway. It is also harder to get a nice tight fit with that kind of sling, which is less ergonomic- the weight hangs off your shoulder instead of being supported by your body.

You are better off IMVHO with a well-fitting pouch sling - Karma Baby has beautiful patterns, as does Hotslings, both for less than half the price of the Serena & Lilly.

Or a good ring sling!

Still, let's go back to the original question...is there a cheaper version?

Honestly, I agree, this looks like a terrible sling. I wouldn't take one as a gift.

1) The fabric across the shoulder is very, very narrow, which means you're going to get a tremendous amount of pressure concentrated on your shoulder. It's not going to distribute baby's weight across your shoulder and back.

2) The pouch of the carrier looks too wide and too deep, leading to the concerns about bag slings, in terms of oxygen deprivation/positional asphyxia from a chin to chest position.

In fact, I downloaded the instruction brochure and I'm a little freaked to see this text:

Quote:
If baby is fussy at first, you’ll probably need to make a few adjustments to find the perfect position. Try placing
a folded cloth or receiving blanket inside the sling, right
behind baby’s back. This lifts the chin off the chest,
helping baby breathe easier.
Umm YEAH let's hope your baby fusses if s/he can't breathe well!

I couldn't agree with the PP more -- a ring sling or a well-fitted pouch from a reputable company is going to be much more comfortable, versatile, and safe. Not to mention way less expensive.

to the OP, what did your friend like about this sling? was it particularly comfortable? What specific features struck her fancy?

I think it's a beautiful sling but, like others, have concerns about the proper positioning of the sling.

I did a light search on related items to this sling and only came up with celebrity photos of the carrier.

If your friend liked the pouch style of this sling then a hybrid sling like this is cheaper and might be more comfortable too:

It's just a pouch but with ring sling adjustments.

Hope that helps.

: All the PPs are giving good advice!

These are beautiful looking slings, for sure. If that is what draws you to them, head over the www.thebabywearer.com and you will find beautiful slings that will be more comfortable for you, and safer for your little one.

Good luck - babyweraing is such an amazing parenting tool!
