I am dealing with some thyroid issues and have been tired and such. I am dealing with that well, and have researched what to do about it... etc... Now, my problem is convincing family members that my problems aren't stemming from the TF lifestyle. Even with a history of thyroid trouble in the family, my parents, grandparents etc are convinced that I don't eat enough and by denying myself all of the foods they eat (and should not) that I am malnourished. No matter what I do to explain that my weight loss was normal and healthy, how my diet is better than ever, how I eat very well and don't deny myself food, I can't get them to understand that. DH tries to help me telling them I eat well... as well as he does. What gives?? Any advice on dealing with the onslaught? I'm tired of defending my ways.

You know... I need to learn this lesson in a lot of ways. I need to just let it pass right in one ear and out the other. Say um..hum... and move on. It is hard when they are asking me about my health as we are a close family, and they know when I go to the doc etc... They'll ask... are you eating enough calories?? You are denying yourself food that you need... ( I do not need white store brand bread with high fructose corn syrup. That does nothing for your health.)

Do you ever track and see how many calories you get? Not that I am worried about you, but I know that when I take a couple days and track I am magically averaging right around what is recommended for my size and breastfeeding. Might be helpful (not as a discussion, definitely don't get into it) to be able to say "Thanks! I get xyz amount of calories on an average day of whole natural nutrient dense foods. Thanks for your opinion, pass the peas."

I don't see how anyone could look at a TF diet and think that you are denying yourself...coating everything in butter or coconut oil... and you can make homemade versions of everything they can have, that doesn't make sense.
That said, if you are having thyroid problems, have you checked out the iodine thread? You may be deficient in iodine...the soils are so depleted now, and it's just not commonly found in many foods. Also, if you have been using sea salt instead of iodized, that would contribute a little. I am dealing with severe hypoT right now and am about to start iodine supplementation. I have heard that it helps bring people's energy up a lot.

I think a lot of it comes from them wondering why in the world would I not eat food that they do and when asked not tell them that I don't believe it is good for you. I've lost a lot of weight in what seems to be a too easy way to them I believe. They can't believe that I am eating the way I say I do, or the way they see me do all the time.
It's been awhile since I checked calories. Last time it was around 2,000 or over a bit. I'm pretty sure it's about the same. That's a good idea Bella Babe. I'll do that.
As far as the thyroid I am doing a bit of supplementing with a few things and iodine is one of them. Thanks!
