I go there about every other month and I purchase birthday cards. Good selection for any age. I also purchase tons of school workbooks for my kids, some school craft supplies and party supplies. Very cheep.

we get some cleaning stuff there, birthday party stuff, some household items, gifts of all kinds...sometimes a toy.....

Those Mylar Balloons (for birthdays and such...the kids love them and they last a month or so)
Kids coloring books, activity books, stickers, etc.

Birthday cards are 2/$1 there...I usually don't do store bought cards, unless they're long distance!

I am terrible for the dollar store. Seriously, it's to the point where I go in and spend money every single time. I buy a lot of scrapbooking/cardmaking stuff there. I also buy little travel sized bottles of hand sanitizer, goat's milk lotion, and I found the best Snoopy toothbrushes there. I think they were meant for kids, but I couldn't just leave them . I also get gift bags there, and envelopes.

Mainly seasonal stuff. I don't go often because it is too far away and out of my way to go.

Last time I went, I bought a ton of summer pool/beach/water play stuff. Pool noodles, floaties, beach balls, sunscreen, etc.

I found leg warmers last fall at our local dollar store that were essentially Babyleg knockoffs. I stocked up and DS wore them all winter long. A few pair fell apart, but they were only a dollar a pair, and they came in all sorts of cute stripes.

I love the 99 cents only store. They always have good stuff.

-art supplies for dd (construction paper, stickers, writing pads, etc.)
-Workbooks and flashcards for dd.
-Office supplies (envelopes, pens, pencils, paper clips, binders)

-Occasionally, I will buy food but only if it's a brand I know. I always check the expiration date

I almost never go there, but I do occasionally buy wrapping paper or tissue paper there...small notebooks and/or pens for stocking stuffers or birthday party loot bags...balloons...Santa hats (everyone in the family, except dh, wears one through the Christmas season)...glow sticks. I can't really think of anything else. Our dollar stores don't stock much food - mostly just candy and pop.

Everything. I go there first when I need something, then Target if they don't have it. Lately:

hpts
opks
strawberry preserves (no hfcs!)
storage bins
candy
a screwdriver
bleach
broom and dustpan
shelf paper
dish cloths
tylenol

And I found the best ever pizza slicer in there. The above is what I get every time.
This is a great article on deals and duds for the 1.00 store... Toothpaste was on the dud list for the following:

In 2007, the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers that many brands of toothpaste found at dollar stores carried diethylene glycol, a poisonous chemical found in antifreeze. Although recalls were issued, some of these products could still be on shelves, including toothpaste made to look like your favorite brands. So, it's probably best to steer clear.
