*sigh* Prefolds are all stained now...

I just switched from fitted to prefolds because DD was outgrowing all the fitteds I have. All of my prefolds are used and were very clean.
Now everyone of them have a stain from my DD's stinky behind... wtheck? We use country save and sometimes borax. They smell very clean. I have a front load. I do a rinse cycle on cold with some soap, then use the hot/cold option with an extra rinse to get out the detergent. Soooo what on earth should i do about the stains?

I line dry, and never have a stain that stays! (The sun is amazing!)

Yup, sunshine will have them looking brand new again in just a few hours. My DS was born in the early winter so I didn't line dry until more recently. Our infant PFs were almost solid mustard colour by then! But just one afternoon in the sun did the trick. Now I line dry everything and will do so right through next winter.

IME, the stains sun out even if the diapers are dry when you put them outside. So if you want them fluffy from the dryer, you can dry them first (or just partially) then put them out.

Yep, I agree with PP - sun. I had several stained diapers, and I dried them on the line once for just a couple of hours. That didn't do the trick, so I tried Country Save oxygen bleach...didn't help. Then I hung them (after drying in the dryer) out in the sun for most of a day, and the stains were GONE. So you need to give it some time in the sun (longer than it takes them to simply dry on the line).

Everybody else has it right. Sunshine. It works wonders. Good luck.

So even if they've been dried in the dryer, putting them on the line will get rid of stains? I figureed they'd be set because of using the dryer...sweet. I love the smell of line dried laundry anyway.

Oh, does it sound like my washing is right tho?

To get the best effect from sunning, wet them before you put them out.

It is also possible to do nothing at all about the stains. They don't mean your diapers aren't clean, or that your washing routine isn't working. Stains are just stains. They will fade with repeated washings, and can be bleached out when you're getting ready to store or pass down or sell the diapers. With some babies' poo, stains are just a fact of life with diapers...

I find oxy-clean very helpful, when I really want to get rid of a poo stain. You can get the spray, and just spray the stain before you wash. You'll get the best effect with this if you wash the diaper well, first. Then take it out of the washer, and if it's still stained, spray it with oxy-clean and then toss it back in and wash again.

ummm, they are DIAPERS. It is NORMAL for them to be stained!

Ours are always stained! Just because they have stains doesn't mean they're not clean. When they bother me, I wait for a nice day and hang them on the line. I don't worry about the stains too much.

Yep, I hung mine out when they were already dried in the dryer, and it worked.

And yes, your washing routine sounds right - that's pretty much what I do (I just don't put soap in the cold pre-rinse).

Ok. I just worried about the stains, like that maybe they weren't as clean as I thought, but then they smell clean... I feel better now.
