WWYD? Being shorted with my raw milk

Thread Starter
I'd like some feedback on how to handle this situation.

Yesterday was the second time in a row that I was shorted milk at my local organic farm. I went in with 2 half gallon jars and each contained at least 1 cup under 1/2 gallon mark. When it happened the first time, I just thought that the girl was in a hurry so didn't say anything. The girl that has filled me up the last 2 times is a highschool-aged employee on the farm, not the owner or the store manager.

I don't really want to be picky, sound snotty, or get anyone in trouble but... When I pay big bucks for milk, I prefer to get the amount that I pay for.

Thanks.

I would alert the manager or owner. It is considered fradulent to sell a product that is incorrectly measured. If they are selling you a half gallon, then they should sell you a half gallon, as in 64 fl oz, not 56 oz or less as being sold to you. If an inspector were to show up or receive complaints about this, the owner could be heavily fined. You would be doing him a favor by telling him about this.

Tell the owner/manager. As the owner of a micro-dairy, I want my shareholders to be happy with their product and completely comfortable with what they are receiving.

are you buying milk or do you have a cow share or herd share? If it is a cow or herd share, you are entitled to a % of the total production, which fluctuates from day to day

If it were me, I would prefer to bring it up with the employee first, rather than go straight to the owner - I dont think there's anything wrong with politely asking them to fill your container all the way up.

Then, if it continues to happen, then it's time to bring it up to the owners.

Give the employee an opportunity to fix it before the owner is forced to speak with her about it...

If you didn't want to be directly confrontational, you could say something like, "Oh, could you make sure you get it filled completely? I hate to run out and make the trip before I have to."
