Best exercise for a bulging/hernieted disc?

I have a bulging disc at L5 mainly ( a little S1). Anyone else suffer the "joys" of a bulging disc and know what type of exercise would be good?

I'd like to get an indoor machine. I want to be able to exercise while I watch my kids, who at 2 and 4, can play independently. My ergometer (indoor rower) is definately out. I use it once and my right leg goes numb.


My PT suggested an elliptical, then a treadmill and lastly a RECUMBENT bike. Anyone have any experience?

I liked using her nautilus recumbent bike while doing PT last year. But she seemed to think the elliptical would give me a better workout. Never tried an elliptical!

I was just diagnosed with bulging disc and arthritis.  I'm really frustrated bc I've been in terrible pain and pt and chiro has not helped at all.  Please tell me your progress!!
