Yes, a great thing about living in the suburbs is the pools/water parks designed for the community.
http://www.lombardparks.com/PBW.htm

this just opened last week. For my family of 4, its $170 for the season. ITs also a few dollars extra now on the whole towns property taxes, but well worth it. If we go 9 times (that is just me and the girls not DH) we get our money's worth. We will go 3 times a week at least. We also pack a lunch and the kids have their allowance to buy snacks etc if they want.

And the beat goes on...

My little fender-bender seems to have TOTALED the car I hit. Granted, it was a serious beater before I hit it, but sheesh. Why couldn't it be a little $300 dent fixing situation? I will have to let the insurance pay out. So no $$ out-of-pocket now, but I am screwed come December when my policy renews unless I qualify for accident forgiveness. On the upside, it looks like I can get then dent in my own car fixed if I am so inclined without getting in any more trouble. So maybe I'll do that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goals:

Balanced budget each month
122/12,500 set aside for December taxes and mortgage interest

Total June Income: $5450

Total June Spending: $2942.29

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
June 1: $103.30 insurance autodraft, $13.32 groceries, $100 cash, $952.15 mortgage, $24.94 gas
June 2: $75.26 nursing clothes, $42.36 at BRU, $31.33 groceries
June 3: $16.50 insurance autodraft, $113.11 at Costco (groceries, books, father's day gift for dh)
June 4: $200 taken out to pay cleaner, $12.30 Mickey-Ds, $25.00 donation to alma mater
June 5: $100 to open Helen's 529
June 6: $11.53 for something on Amazon,
June 7: $130.25 at Costco,
June 8: $14.25 movie theater concessions (used gift passes for the tickets, paid sitter with some of the cash I withdrew earlier this month).
June 9: $30.56 monthly gas bill, $179.52 quarterly water bill, $11.53 cookies (don't ask, I owed my BIL money, he wanted to be paid in expensive cookies)
June 10: $661.21 car payment autodebit
June 11: Mickey-Ds, paid in cash, $93.87 food and household at Wal-Mart

So lucky! The Family of 4 pass here is $360!!! UGH! We'd literally have to go every single day to make it worth it -- I just can't imagine. I've budgeted 2-3 days a week at the municipal pool, and then we hit the free pools on the other days if we have time (but I hate them -- they are small and crowded and dirty and half the time the chlorine pumps break while we're there and they send everyone home--I swear all the city council members must go to country clubs or something).

re: community pool as money-saving strategy :

Same Here!!!

Our pool opened yesterday and it is already paid for so I told the kids we are going EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

And I'm not kidding!!! That pass is expensive so we are going to use it -- I'm going to that pool like it is my job.

We also started a "Playground Challenge" -- we've made a list of a dozen playgrounds in the area that the girls like and we are going to be visiting ALL of them.

I took a milk crate to the library last week and loaded that thing up with books. On rainy days -- they are reading.

I'm trying to keep this summer busy so that I will keep myself out of the stores.
