Hi! This is my first time joining, and it's with some trepidation . I'm great at making a budget...it's the keeping it that's the hard thing. I hope this group can help keep me accountable .

a. Who you are
I'm Emilie. I'm a SAHM to my 2 1/2 year old DS and my 10 week old DD.

b. Where you are going (your financial goals)
The big goals are to pay off our debt ($1100 medical bills, $2300 car loan, and big big student loan) and start saving for a house down payment.

We have a $1000 emergency fund already, so that makes me feel good.

I'd like to end the month with $ leftover in our checking acct instead of our balance at zero.

c. How you plan to get there

Stick to my budget! Stop making little unecessary purchases on things like coffee, snacks and eating out 'cause even though we don't do it often they still add up. Go with a cash budget for food, household items and gas. I think I'm going to allocated a small amount of cash for eating out so we can keep track of that easier instead of just whipping out the debit card. Meal plan so we won't even have to get takeout for dinner. Make grocery lists and stick to them.

June
06/01: 47.55 bulk laundry soap and litter (household), 100.19 groceries, 15.00 takeout tacos (dining out)
06/02: 48.35 groceries, 29.81 vitamins (household)
06/03: 3.50 knitting pattern

Budget for June:
148.54/$400 Groceries
77.36/$120 Household/Personal care
0/$80 Gas
15/$50 Eating out/treats
100/$100 general savings

No spend days goal: 0/20
: Budgeted
: Non-budgeted

Ack! June is getting away from me and I have no plan for it as yet!

<deep breath>

Hi! I'm Smithie, SAHM to three kids and very part-time HR/tax/legal Girl Friday for my husband's business. I had a baby, the acoompanying baby naming party, the other two kid's birthdays, Mother's Day, etc. etc. in May. Financially, May sucked. We spent a hair more than we made. That sucks. We did not save towards the mortgage-interest and property tax payments that both come due in December. That doubly sucks.

This month, I am going to take the money towards our December payments out of checking and put it into savings NOW. I am going to follow the example of other ladies here and keep an ongoing running total of my progress towards the goal amount. I think that will help keep it at the top of my consciousness. We are blessed with an EF that I do NOT want to have to tap in December to pay these big scary bills!

I'm still not exactly sure how much $$ is coming in the door in June - the tweaking of FSA, retirement and tax witholding continues (we own our own business). I AM expecting some kind of income tax bill, as dh filed for an extension and has been procrastinating on getting our taxes done and will hopefully do it this month. He thinks federal bill and state refund will cancel each other out, and I surely do hope he is correct!

I track all spending here. Otherwise, chaos reigns I have decided to let go of tracking categories a bit and focus on the bottom line. Also, I'll be running a couple of days behind as I'm going to wait for transactions to show up in Quicken before I post the gory details here. Tracking cash spending is such a nightmare for me, I'm just going to keep it to an absolute minimum. and try not to care when some money disappears down the cash rabbit hole.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goals:

Balanced budget each month
122/12,500 set aside for December taxes and mortgage interest

Total June Income: $5155

Total June Spending: 1359.16/5155

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
June 1: $103.30 insurance autodraft, $13.32 groceries, $100 cash, $952.15 mortgage, $24.94 gas

My Key-
No Spend
Necessary/Planned Spending
Unnecessary Spending
Weekly Money

I'm having a really hard time not spending. I know I need to save money and I'm trying, but then I think of all the other ways I can be saving but need to spend a little to do that. Confused yet?
Here's my wishlist-
*Pizza Peel-Ok, I started making our daily bread and am happy with the results, but I'd like to start making the recipes from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. I have a stone, container to store dough, but I would like a pizza peel. I'm impatient and I know I'll f@#* up the dough by moving it. OOH...**BRAINSTORM** could I just set up the dough and stuff on foil and bake the bread on the foil lined stone? Any of you bread baking mamas know if that will that work?
*New cookbooks and just got 2 coupons for Borders, but I don't know if I can justify the expense. They're not books I can get from the library and they're ones I'd really like to keep in my collection
*Donut Pan-In an effort to eat healthier (and sneakier), I wanted one of these so I can sneak more veggies into ds without his knowledge he is a terrible eater!!

I'm thinking of using $$ from my food/household budget for the books and pan, rather than digging into what would be saved, since these items would be used for that anyway, and therefore cut our grocery bill. Please feel free to weigh-in.

6/1- $100 groceries, $30 gas
6/2-
6/3-
6/4- $35 Household

Goal
No spend 2/14/30 days
Groceries/Household $135/$400

I got the pizza peel for this purpose - honestly, I eff things up just as often with the peel.

I'd take the $ for those things (pan, cookbooks) out of grocery if you can swing that so you don't mess on savings - that way you are really focusing rather than giving in to wants.

Oh wow, I just saw my paycheck and I officially know what my temporary raise is! (My boss is out of town for an extended stay so I get her salary until she is back in August). It will be an extra $200 a month for us! Yay! I will hoard that away for the upcoming surgery and move we are having.
