For the first time ever I used Evite's option for people to choose a food item to bring to a gathering (Father's Day BBQ). In the past always had the mindset, "If we are hosting we should provide everything", and when people offered I declined. Much less stressful this time around time-wise w/ fewer dishes to prepare, and financially w/ less cash outlay. Yay!

Groceries - $102.19/$300
So I've decided I'm going to go ahead and allow myself to buy a new mattress at the end of the month, so long as I can save an extra $100 or more this month. That's going to be hard- as you can see I cut my budget for spending and home/garden in half. I also cut out my portion of the budget for alcohol. If I stick to this I should be able to save an extra $200, which will take a big chunk out of the $600 price. I do already have all the $ saved but I'd just feel better about it if I could save lots of money to put towards it before spending the cash, less to pay myself back in the long run. A month of famine will be worth it! So I need some support because usually when I deprive myself I break down and go over my budget. Maybe it will be easier because I know there's a big prize at the end, though.

This morning I went to the mall to look at the mattress I'll be getting... I know the mall is a weakness of mine and although I'm good at sticking within my regular budget, I usually do end up buying something there. It's just too tempting with everything laid out in front of you! So I actually put $5 in my wallet in case of emergency and left my debit card at home. It actually worked like a charm!! A couple of time I spotted sales on things (mostly flowers at the side of the road), and thought I should buy it- but too bad I don't have the $ lol! I'm thinking I'll always leave it at home for the rest of the month unless I have a planned purchase like groceries.

My biggest temptation is going to be not buying things for our garden. Maybe I can just try to avoid going back there for the rest of the month... our garden beds are really empty and sad looking and I'm really aching for some more plants.

I will record spending here. Regular Bills will not be recorded:

June 1 - $80 Dinner for church crew that moved us, well worth it!
June 2 - $5.50 Annual Dues for Mom's Group
June 3 - made money by doing a 1 hour survey group - $75 CASH
June 4 - $75 Target - We just moved this week so I should have budgeted in some things we needed
June 5 - $10 Breakfast, Snacks

I am not doing so hot over here. This whole moving thing and DH being out of town combo and me being 33 wks pg is overwhelming. Help!

maybe you could get a couple of seed packets? i know it's not as satisfying as an instant garden like when you buy larger plants but it's so much cheaper and then you have seeds for a few years and hinestly, it feels more satisfying to me to have created the entire plant. plus, most gardens are only just starting to get going, give yours time and i bet it'll fill in. our sunflowers out now almost 3 feet tall and they started from seeds! good luck!

Aaaargh. There is a cop hanging out in my development giving tickets. IN MY DEVELOPMENT. Apparently I did not come to a full and complete stop at a stop sign INSIDE MY DEVELOPMENT. So now I need to find $500 for the damn lawyer, as well as any $$ I might end up owing the state if he doesn't get the ticket dismissed. If I just pay the ticket ($268!) the insurance hike will cost me far more in the long run.

Damn damn damn! I somehow survived into my thirties without getting ANY tickets, and now I've gotten two so far this year! Can't they find a better way to raise money? Like, maybe, accepting the UAVing stimulus package?

Oh, and a nice old man who was out walking saw me pulled over with the baby screaming in the backseat, went up to the cop's window to plead with him to let the lady with the baby go and get out of our neighborhood because really, truly, we do not have a safety problem with the stop signs, and wound up with a huge ticket of his own for obstruction or contempt or something. All for talking to the cop for less than one minute in a totally nonthreatening way. Aaaaaaaaargh.

I wish wish wish I could do that! I tried it many times but there is so much wildlife that visits our yard and they are vicious city animals... between the squirrels, raccoons and rabbits, the seeds are either gone before they even sprout or as soon as the sprout they are chowed down or dug up. The only thing they don't seem to touch are the larger, non-edible plants and sometimes they go freakish and even dig those up. Trust me, I've wasted lots of money trying to start things from seeds! And yes, I've tried natural deterrents but no even if I plant my seeds in SOLID cayenne pepper they don't seem to mind!! :

My Key-
No Spend
Necessary/Planned Spending
Unnecessary Spending
Weekly Money

OK, so I went ahead and bought the donut pan and the 2 books. Then I bought more groceries!! The way I see it, I'm not going grocery shopping for another 2 weeks. I have more than enough food in my pantry, plus stuff to make bread, yogurt, etc. And my CSA pickup is next week, so there's more food, right there. I'm good. Really. No. More. Spending.

6/1- $100 groceries, $30 gas
6/2-
6/3-
6/4- $67 Household (including the 2 books I wanted)
6/5-
6/6-$77 groceries, $30 amazon (donut pan!!)

Goal
No spend 3/14/30 days
Groceries/Household $274/$400
