Nellie's Laundry Soda in HE Washer?

Anyone out there use Nellie's Laundry Soda in their front-loading HE washer?

The regular "serving" size calls for a tablespoon of soda, but I have heard time and time again to use a smaller amount for diapers. If anyone has a front loading HE machine and uses Nellie's, how much soda do you use? 1/2 tablespoon? 1 teaspoon?

Thanks, Mamas and Pappas!

Hi Mama, I used regular washing soda (which I think is the same as Nellie's) in our HE FL - I think I used about 1tsp and a few squirts of simple green for my dipes. I also sometimes used about 1/8 cup of country save. Dipes usually smelled good. You can always adjust up and down, so no big worries.

That's a huge help, thank you! I had heard that Allens only requires a teaspoon per load, but hadn't seen anything concrete for Nellie's. Do you spray each dipe with Simple Green or do you add it to the wash dispenser?

What do you mean by washing soda? I don't know that I have seen regular washing soda down here...

Washing soda is sodium carbonate (sometimes called soda ash). I believe it comes in different strengths as well (people use the stronger pool version for dyeing clothes, and for pools). I believe that nellie's is just a name brand washing soda. Country save is basically washing soda and borax. Washing soda is also the base ingredient for all commercial detergents.

As for the simple green, I just put about 5-7 squirts straight in the washing tub with the dipes (kinda sprayed it on the side, not directly on the dipes). It was a receipe from this cding website - though the recipe appears to be gone now.

I may try washing soda and some squirts of my new cleaner (Pink Solution-made in Canada-as I know all of the ingredients in it), as I'm not sure about the actual "green/natural" qualities of simple green - though I do think it is better that mainstream detergents and household cleaners. Hope that helps!
