Emma had real problems with disposable wipes... if you can't switch to cloth, try rinsing them really well in plain water? Get as much no-diaper time as possible, and make sure she's really dry before putting on a new diaper...

I caught my first pee!!!!

DS is not even 2 weeks, and I haven't tried before, but I just went to change his dipe before feeding him, and it was dry so I took him to the bathroom and held him over the toilet for a minute cuing him, and he went! He had the same sign my other son did: an erection. Actually with DS1 it was more that his penis would look "full" just before he'd go, but this was an actual erection; not sure if they're related or not. Unfortunately for DS1 who was standing there watching teh whole event, I was adjusting my hold on DS2, and just as he started to pee I wasn't holding his penis down pointing into the toilet, and so DS1 sorta got sprayed. He took it in stride though.

That's great about latching babies! : I hope it continues well.
I wish I could latch without pain. Not sure if it's thrush or just residual early nursing discomfort, but it still hurts to get him latched. The pain diminishes over the nursing, though between nursings they are sore.

We went grocery shopping today, all 4 of us since I'm not supposed to drive for a few more days [d*mn c/s]. I carried DS2 in the Maya wrap, and I was surprised that NO ONE commented about it or him. I DID have one older lady comment about one of my cloth bags that says "Love makes a family" with a huge rainbow heart. I don't think she realized it was referring to gay marriage rights... Oh well. I saved $43 on today's trip.


I need to join the weight loss accountability thread. I gained 50+ pounds. I've lost at least 20 already, mostly water weight. But I was also at least 20 pounds over before I got pregnant, so I'd love to lose a total of about 50 more. That would get me down to 150 which is still a bit above ideal, and a weight I haven't "seen" in years. *sigh*

Same here, DS was reacting REALLY badly to the disposable wipes. And they were the same ones I always used with DD and never had a problem. I've been using warm water and super soft wash clothes instead and its cleared right up.



I now have DD's cold Started right before dinner with the runny nose and now I feel like my head is going to explode. Ugh.

Mama Rana-that is awesome about EC! I am getting interested and have started reading up on it. We may take the plunge. We have the whole summer when DD will be with either DH or me. But what do people do when they send their kids to a babysitter?

Yay for you!! I can't wait for that moment! We're doing EC with Lucy too. Tonight I knew she was going to poop, but didn't trust my instincts so I missed it. I kind of stopped her mid-poop and tried to put her on the Bjorn potty and she HATED it. She's only 3 days old...so I'm not being too hard on myself

For those of you that are EC'ing...what are you using to go in? Bowl? Baby potty? Real potty?

Mama Rana ~ awesome on catching the first pee! My hat is off to you guys that do that. I'm not sure I'd ever have the patience or energy for it. Too lazy!

I woke this morning sick. Oy. Headache (as usual) and wicked. Hoping that's as bad as it gets and that no one else, especially G, get it.

It was 80 something degrees at DS's little league game last night and supposed to get up to 90 today. Not sure if I'll attend that one. It's so hot for G there. We brought out our umbrellas, but it was hard to keep him shaded from the sun, especially while nursing him! And I forgot to wear my tank under my shirt last night which probably made me a bit cooler, but more uncomfortable when nursing. Ah well.

Liz- Awesome about the latching!! It was rough for us for a few weeks. I dreamed of bottle feeding but pushed through and now its way better!! Hope things get better and better for you guys!!

kriket- we're getting real smiles here at 5 weeks. My ds1 gets most of them. Although ds2 is suuuper smiley in the morning when he wakes up. I just love lounging in bed and making him smile!

Yeah, I need to get back taking my vitamins, too. I was really good when I first got home b/c I had a HUGE black and blue on my arm from the needle and pitocin. I bruise super easy. So was taking my prenatals and vitamin c as well. It healed up super quick then I forgot to keep taking them.

I just weighed G. I have a digital scale from when I did ebay so I put him in a box on the scale and then subtract the weight of the box. hehe He gives me such interesting "What the HECK are you doing to me, mama?!" looks when I do this! ANYWAY, he's up a pound from birth weight and about 1 1/2lbs from the weight he left the hospital at. Yay G! (He's 16 days old.) He still only just under 8lbs, but still! Not much longer and we'll even be parting with our Gymboree preemie clothes, I think!

I can't believe I am finally posting here instead of just lurking!

We just got home from the hospital and are figuring things out. I'm doing well and terrifically in love My mom leaves tomorrow though and DH has already gone back to school... so I'll probably be around for the support tomorrow.

I saw the weight loss accountability thread, I am so not even close to being in the weight loss mindset yet. I still feel like I look pregnant! Just not as far along. Weird.

Gotta nurse my lovebug! Hope all you mamas are doing well!

The weight loss thing is so frustrating for me because with nursing Im RAVENOUS all the time. Every time I have a nursing session, I have to eat immediately afterward. Also with the bleeding, I worry about starting excersising right away even though Im dying to get moving. I have days of no bleeding, and then days of bleeding. Its so annoying. NOt heavy, just enough to be annoying.

So Im kind of stumped on the weight loss thing. I am trying to snack on healthy things and not eat any sweets. Other than that, I think Im destined to hold on to this extra 35 lbs til my baby is done nursing in few years...

Yay for getting a latch scootchsmom! That is so great! We had some latching issues over here too and it took me a while and some sore nipples to figure it out but we have got it now.

RR, ITA. I eat like a pig when I'm nursing! We'll see how it goes. I think you are smart to try to eat reasonable foods. Really, if you are hungry, you should eat. But maybe a huge bowl of ice cream isn't the best solution.

NIP-- We went to SIL college graduation this weekend. I am becoming a NIP champ, I tell ya. I nursed at the main graduation ceremony, as well as the pinning. (She got her nursing degree.) I've nursed at church, at the park, in the mall. Pretty much everywhere I've been since giving birth LOL. I'm lucky to live somewhere where it isn't a big deal.

I'm still trying to figure out baby M's rash. She started getting some baby acne. Then it spread all over one cheek and the back of her neck. Now it covers those areas, plus the other cheek, under her chin and both ears. It looks a lot like eczema. We battled that for years with ds1. So I cut dairy out. I thought it might have made a difference, but now I don't think so. She puked again last night, and the rash seems to be more sun/heat related than food related. Although I'm wondering about maybe garlic being a problem or maybe wheat. Dh and ds1 are both celiac. Her skin looks much better today after a bath and coconut oil last night. I'm having some mac and cheese for lunch today so we'll see. It may be something I have to use moderation about. I do think chocolate may be a problem however. ds1 HATED chocolate in my milk. Wouldn't nurse. I night weaned him by having chocolate every night before bed. How mean is that? It worked though.

My bleeding really picked up this weekend when we were on the go and in the heat all the time. It's back to just yellowish discharge now. I'm sick of pads too and can't wait to be DONE. Also hoping to get 16 months period free like I did last time.

How's it going today, Scootch? Have you tried latching again? Good luck to you--whatever you do, I know you are making the best choice for your family. You are an awesome mama!

yay! ive had some soreness due to my oldest having his two year molars coming in and him wanting to nurse every time the baby does...any others here tandem nursing? some days its amazing, and others its overwhelming...

on the sleep front, dare i say ive gotten two "full" nights of sleep where miss pea only woke for a feed, didnt poo, and then went directly back to sleep?! after going down at 7pm...and sleeping through until 7am? im praying for this to be our new schedule...if i could just get her to nurse back down w.o needing a diaper or puking all over me in the middle of the night, id be in business...

that said, she's been sleeping an awful lot this morning, and big brother is sick w/ some weird fever/cough...so perhaps she is warding it off...or growing...or any other maybe...so many maybes in the newborn stage...haha.

Wait, so, my two-servings-of-ice-cream-a-day habit isn't good? ;-) Darn.

I eat like a pig too...I'm really going to have to tone it down...I think I'll have to start up my food diary (Sparkpeople.com has a good food diary that's free and Dietitian.com can help you calculate how many calories you need per day, factoring things like pregnancy, breastfeeding, body type and weight goals).

Funny. I was just going to come and post how if I'm not nursing one or the other of DSs, I'm eating or sleeping. I hate this stage. Eat, sleep, nurse and so uncomfortable. I think every part of my body hurts from something or another. Not to mention being all sticky from milk half the time.

I hear ya! Let's have a 200-for-only-another-day club cuz we can do it! I gained 50 also.

What do you ladies do to strengthen your core with the separation of the ab muscles?

We gave Ezra his first bottle just now and he took it well, DH fed him and enjoyed it. He conked out as usual and I pumped a bottle. He took about 4 1/2 oz I think.

ScootchsMom - woohoo re: no pain! Lanisoh and air time helped some soreness I had after feedings, and I occasionally put Lanisoh on before showering to protect from water and soap.

I'm tandem nursing and not enjoying it really. I know it helps DS feel more connected to me since we get very little one on one at the moment but it hurts after a while and he could nurse for hours if I let him. I do not like nursing them at the same time because he always ends up flailing around and I don't want him to hurt her.

Alicia - I wear supportive undergarments (think girdle + bike shorts kind of thing) to get my muscles back together and to help with a mild hernia I have this time around. Light support doesn't really cut it for me so I usually wear firm support. I did the same thing after DS and had excellent results.

Today I managed to get some annuals planted in the front yard while DS hung out in the stroller and Laine was in the babyhawk. I ended up meeting another one of my neighbors and she's going to make me dinner tomorrow night My whole neighborhood apparently knows I had a UC, my MIL told one neighbor and I told the other so they all must be talking about it. Not that I mind really, everyone has been positive and pretty amazed by the whole thing. Since we live in military housing I think our house will have a pretty cool story about it now for whoever ends up living here after us.
