mix raw milk and regular?

We can't afford to buy all the milk that we need in raw form, also we only get deliveries of it once a month. So- 2 questions-

Would you mix raw with regular to make it stretch long enough or just drink the raw and when it runs out switch?

Would you buy enough for the whole month and freeze half? I don't think it would last an entire month in the fridge...

Thanks!

I personally wouldn't buy any pasteurized/homogenized milk. I would get what I could afford and only use that much milk.

Try freezing it! It changes the texture (frozen fat globules won't emulsify the same way) but it's fine to drink! Then you could have a week or two of fresh, and the rest frozen. No biggie.

Ok, Buy however much raw you can reasonably afford. Keep out the amount that you will use in the first week and freeze the rest in widemouth quart sized jars with two inches of head room. It works best ot leave the lids off while it hardens, that way you minimize breakage
For extra, make SURE that you are buying unhomgenized and if possible organic.
See if you can find low heat processed too.
If you want to actually mix them together, only mix what you are going to consume at that particular time.
Between pasturised and homogenized, the latter is the one that is truly dangerous.

Try to look at this as a temporary situation. At some point you will be able to afford all raw, and it is a good goal to work towards.

ETA: One way we can afford lots of raw milk and cream, is because we run one of the co-ops for our farmer. Even after we pay for the fuel, we still have enough leftover from the co-op drivers share, to pay for all our milk.

Ah. I agree. I wouldn't mix. Even if you go buy past milk, I wouldn't want to "taint" my yummy raw milk with it!

At this point, I can not in good conscience allow my family to ingest "regular" milk....it simply isn't a food source, any more than twinkies are. *barf smiley*
i would buy as much real milk as i could afford(probably looking hard at the bidget and adjusting so as to have a gallon per week as the minimum), and yes, freeze it so as to have some every week..when you thaw, thaw slowly, or you get little chunky bits..it still tastes fine, but the flecks/bits can affect people with texture issues like myself, lol.

I agree. We buy what we can raw and then make it last the best we can. If we run out, we are out until we get more raw. DH and I will not buy the store stuff anymore. (DH calls it "dead milk")
The farm we buy it from has fresh and frozen. We buy a few gallons fresh and then the rest frozen. We are able to buy enough to last us two weeks or more to cut down on the times we have to make the hour or so drive out there.
