It's June! Weekly Thread 6/1-7

Heyla all!

Hope the weather, the weight, and the baby wiggles are all working together to make for happy mamas!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Catching up- our local festival was fun... I put some pictures in my flickr account (the "dancing girl" link in my sig) but I think the high point for dd1 was getting her face painted, dd2 swooned over meeting the Very Hungry Caterpillar (part of a float that celebrates reading to your children), and I had a blast cheering on my fellow belly dancers (even though I sat this performance out). And the rain was pretty minimal.
From last week's thread- Puddle (and all)... I think the majority of adult women have been exposed to toxo, but it makes a beautiful excuse for avoiding litter box duties (which was what I was trying to suggest). I remember reading somewhere though that the rates of exposure in the UK are a lot higher than they are in the US. I don't think the article I was reading mentioned Canada or Australia though, and I don't think it discussed why there was a difference in exposure. Oh, and toxo is also a risk when gardening (feral cats making use of the garden soil) but very few care providers remind women to wear gloves while gardening. Possibly because gardening is fun and litter box duties aren't?
Weight- I take a full year to get back to my pre-preg weight, no matter how much weight I gain during the pregnancy. I would have LOVED to be flat bellied at a week... heck, I would have been happy to be flat bellied at a year! But the belly never went back to what it was (though the Tupler Technique did help), and although my weight before this pregnancy was less than it was pre-baby number one I still wear a bigger size because of my hips. My shoe size is also a full size larger than it was before my first babe, but at least it has stayed constant through three pregnancies!
I just dropped my son off at his first day of summer camp (photo here) and it is just another reminder that my baby is not a baby at all any more. I would be freaking out if I was not pregnant.
I shot two newborns yesterday and they were so cute and cuddley I said "ooooh, i want one so bad" and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. Seriously, though, 12 weeks is a long time to wait!
Target has been ordering every two weeks, which is sooo awesome and is relieving my stress (I better see my sling on every Target registry here!), at least about the business a little. I am still behind on everything else. There are just a million small details, and they overwhelm me and then I feel like I can not do anything at all. How do you guys manage everything? Do I have too much on my plate or just not enough of a skill set to deal with everything? Or is it bc I am 7 months pg and need to slow down anyways?
Dh is finally done with all his trips, so we are going to paint next weekend, then we have two showers the following weekend, then Elijah and I go visit my family for a week. June will fly by.
Hope everyone else is doing well! Can't wait to see who has their baby first, we could be seeing babies in the ddc in about a month!
I can't believe it is June!!! :
I think I'm not so up with the times- Stacey what sling is yours? That is awesome!
Had an u/s this morning to check baby's size. Perinatologist asked me to schedule it after Rosie only came in at 8th percentile for weight at the 20 week. So I'm either 31 or 32 weeks today and boyo weighs 3 lbs 13 oz!!! 40th percentile! DD weighed 7 lbs 12 oz at 6 days postdates, so I'm thinking 8 lbs or so for this one and hopefully a nice, early due date Got a 3D shot of his little face, too, but his foot was all smooshed into his nose so he's all pugilist-looking.
Good news Brooklyn!
I can't believe that next month babies may start being born in our DDC. I'm at the end of August so it still seems pretty far away to me. I'm expecting a 40 weeker so having a baby at 37 weeks will really take me by surprise.
So I've been having an insane amount of hip pain at night, it feels like my hips are literally on fire. This morning I took some magnesium - yeah, bad idea. Learn from me and don't take magensium during the day time. It made my body so incredibly tired, like I was on the strongest muscle relaxer ever. I was couch-bound for a good hour. The hot flashes were ridiculous too. I feel bad for mamas who have to be on magnesium sulfate for PTL! I'm just finally feeling back to normal now 4 hours later.
Clay, R's birthday is coming up soon right? I think I remember that she was born just a few days after E. He'll be 2 Friday - where di the time go?! Happy birthday little ones!
I am excited it is finally June, two more months and I'll be delivering my fourth surprise baby!
Officially started my third trimester yesterday, and the accompanying aches and pains are back with a vengeance, lack of appetite, nausea, fatigue, and this baby is very active at night.
The only worry right now is that being hyperthyroid, I was tested for the presence of antibodies, and those came back positive, so it means I start weekly appointments immediately so that baby's growth is monitored via ultrasound.
Other than that, everything is progressing wonderfully and I can't wait to see how this pregnancy progresses.
Yay, June!
Healthwise, the doctor ordered pool time (one hour every day) does not seem to be helping my swollen ankles. I'm dreading going to my appointment on Friday. I passed the one hour diabetes test, but came back a little anemic. The nurse left a message on Friday afternoon for me to take iron supplements, but I already take 30mg a day in my prenatal. I am waiting for them to call me back. I don't want to OD on iron pills. Instead, I ate a lot of spinach and beans this weekend.
I went to a friend of a friend's house yesterday to pick up some stuff she doesn't need anymore. She has two boys and is done with having babies, so I really scored. Her youngest is 11 months, so she promised more stuff in the future. I love generous people and hope I can pass this stuff on someday when we are done with the baby stage. The loot: a beautiful wooden cradle, a vibrating bouncy seat, a doorway jumper, a baby sling, a backpack type (front-ways) baby carrier (more DH's style - he already adjusted it to fit him), toys, trays to organize and freeze breast milk, a cute mobile, a complete homemade crib set (bumpers and everything) that she never used, bags of clothes, and bags of maternity clothes, blankets, burp clothes and a bunch of misc. stuff. I was so excited to go through all that and check things off our registry!!! Some of the things were the exact items I registered for! Most of the maternity clothes were too small for me, but I will turn them in to my local mommy resale shop for store credit. All this stuff sitting in my living room is making it so real. Jonah is on his way!!!
Sunshyn- I hope the visit this week is all good news! I had a lot of swelling with dd1's pregnancy (I gained around 70 lbs total, but most of that was water gained in the last trimester... pitting edema but no other signs of pre-e). If you need more iron, maybe swap out your prenatal for a low dose general vitamin (like a kiddie vit without iron) and add Floradix? And if you want to concentrate on diet, Kale is a bit better than Spinach in terms of available iron and you can swap the two back and forth in the same recipes.
I just got home from my "Mother's Day" massage... mmmmmmm, yummy! I haven't had a professional massage in almost 10 years and it was much goodness. The therapist is moving to NYC in a few weeks, but she had a few suggestions for follow up massage options here. Actually, my town has a really well known school of massage so there are lots of therapists! The real trick is finding the time to go (well, that and the budget of course).
Jilian- happy bday to the little and happy mama day to you! What a roller coaster you started with that birth. (and yup, Ro hits the 2 year mark next week... oddly enough the space between dd1 and dd2 will be duplicated almost to the week in the spacing between dd2 and ds1, assuming he arrives "on schedule").
The nurse called back and told me to keep taking my Prenatal AND take an additional Iron supplement every other day. I just worry about getting too much in supplements (plus the constipation factor, ack!). I'll address it with my OB on Friday. Maybe they can retest me and I can stop the additional Iron... or maybe she would be okay with the dietary additions (Kale sounds good) instead of additional supplements. That would ease my mind.
Ahhh... a massage sounds heavenly
Update on us: I got my new solarveil ring sling today - the material is discontinued, so I ordered one a couple of weeks ago. I also got my compression stockings to ease the pain of my vericose and spider veins. I wore them yesterday and they made a world of difference.
The baby boy is moving a lot and has started hiccuping a lot. Very cute.
We spent the afternoon at a pool today - I wore my old bikini. My belly button is totally popped, so it's a little embarassing along with my old-lady popping leg veins. But such is life!
Spring Sun - I hope not to repeat my last birthing experience - I was the first to give birth in my June 2007 DDC About 5.5 weeks early!
Brooklyn - good to hear that your baby is so big!
Jillian - I didn't know that Mg2+ made you sleepy! I take it every day to help with constipation and at night to help with restless leg syndrome. Ugh. Maybe that's contributing to my exhaustion? Oh - and Carys turned 2 a few weeks ago - can you believe that they're getting so big?!?! I still hesitate when people ask me her age!
msada - what can happen with the baby's growth with you being hyperthyroid (I must have missed that).
Sunshyn - you really scored!!! That's awesome I also came back a little anemic last week - I had a Hemoglobin level of 10. They told me to increase my Iron intake by food choices, luckily. My bowels can't handle any more than what my prenatal already has!!!
Wombat - I'm jealous of your massage. I have had 2 preg massages and they were both too weak and totally not satisfying. I refuse to pay for another one!!!
Geo, sorry to hear about the painful veins, I hope the stockings help. Happy birthday Carys!
Sunshyn, SCORE! How nice of your friend. I'm trying to do the same since this is our last baby. I'm working on giving away most of the maternity clothes I've outgrown right now then on to the baby boy clothes we'll no longer need. It is a good feeling to see your stuff go to others who need it.
Clay, I'm jealous of the massage too, it sounds fabulous!
i woke the other night screaming in my head ' it's june, i'm never going to get everything done!!!' Seriously the baby could be here in 7 weeks, not that i've had an early baby but there is always a first time - remind me of this when i'm 42 weeks and have had plenty of time to do everything. I really want dh to decorate the living room, its back to plaster at the moment and needs painting and shelves put up. I have started cleaning and de-cluttering which makes me happy. And i started packing a labour bag yesterday, so i can keep all the little baby stuff together.
I've been very grumpy and yelling at the boys, they just seem to be winding each other up and screaming all the time. Luckily its beautifully sunny and we can spend lots of time outside on the trampoline. Although, hate to say it but its too hot for me, i sit outside for 5 minutes and i can see my fingers swell in front of my eyes.
Its ds1 5th birthday in june, time seems to have flown by, i need to plan his birthday party.
Wombat have you thought about offering yourself for massage students to practice on?
sunshyn i'm not low in iron but i've been taking half doses of floradix for a few weeks for various reasons, its pretty good and doesn't make you constipated (i do take it with extra vit c).
post #13 of 28
I definitely recommend the floradix as well. I mix it with OJ and it is not too bad I tested borderline anemic early on so figured it wouldn't hurt to up the iron intake a little.
Things around here are moving along. I can't believe 2 months to go. I am trying really hard to enjoy the summer rather than anticipating the mid august event. I don't want to loose out on another beautiful Chicago summer because I am too busy focussing on something in the future. Easier said than done.
I had my first birth/labor dream last night. I got to do in my dream what I missed with DS. Push a baby all the way out (we ended up having to vacuum DS out after 3 hours of pushing and some HB issues). It was pretty cool and I sure hope the real thing is as nice and easy as my dream .
massage- oh I wish I could volunteer to be a "body"! The school here is amazing, but the wait list to even get onto the volunteer call list is crazy long. One of my friends has been waiting almost three years. It does make things fun though since it's a pretty small town with are all sorts of bodyworkers... for example, I think there are 4-5 people offering Maya Massage (which isn't a really common form of bodywork in the US, but a great bodywork for women since it can treat things like prolapse and cramps).
Baby- I'm 30 weeks this week and Tor has gotten a lot more direct in the last day or two. No more flutters, wiggles, or even jabs... maybe he had a growth spurt, but he is bustin' out all over! He sort of pushes out hard enough to take my breath away, and you can see the knobby lumps of body bits moving under my skin. It's pretty wild... dd1 did a lot of kicking, dd2 was pretty laid back, so this is a new one for me.
It really is pretty crazy that its june already. Honestly, I still don't feel that big or pregnant - I can feel him moving a lot now, but its still kind of hard to believe that in just a little more than 2 months I'll have two little boys to chase around!!
My garden is in full swing now too, which means constantly praying for some frigging rain (it has been *SO* dry aruond here the past month or two, its crazy!! It keeps raining all around us, but we only seem to get rain like once a week for 30 minutes, tops!!). And I must admit to questining my sanity with has big of a garden as I have planted (66 tomatoes, 60 or so odd peppers, 42 broccoli plants, 22 brussel sprouts, 2 beds of beans, tomatillos, 2 zucchinis, pumpkins, butternut squash, watermelon and nearly a whole bed of cucumbers...)... like do I just not properly remember when DS was born 2 years ago?? I mean, I got lots canned last year... but DS was 1.5!!
I am soooo envious! I don't even have seedlings in the ground yet... it was warm last week (in the 70s) so I was feeling like a slacker but then yesterday morning there was a hard frost on the ground and freezing temps so I guess I'm not such a slacker after all. But I get so jealous of mamas who have productive gardens in May/June.
Maybe if you can't process all the produce you could contact a local soup kitchen, food bank, or shelter? There's a program called Plant a Row for the Hungry that takes extra produce and distributes it to those in need... there may be a local branch near you. There's another program (blanking on the name though, and it's relatively new/small) where people will even come to do the harvesting!
Feeling good. Starting to feel massive and pretty sure I am waddling. Had a dream last night the baby had a giant wart on his forehead that they couldn't remove. Not sure what that means. Still working on the house and hopefully one of these days I will order my birthkit!
post #18 of 28
Thanks for the Floradix suggestions. I bought some last night and am happy to have something lose dose and not in pill form (not that I'm completely opposed to pills, but the elemental iron seems safer to me right now).
I'm waddling like crazy!
I second the idea of giving to a food bank if you have a surplus that you can't deal with. Our food bank takes fresh produce and distributes it daily to those in need.
Had my u/s yesterday to check babies heart again after hearing a murmur and it looks fine structurally but still has a murmur so nothing to be to worried about, lots of babies have them.
Went to midwife today for an appt and she reminded me that I have GBS in my urine and that they would give me antibiotics during labor and I sad NO you wont so we had a few unpleasent words I havent seen this midwife before its a group of 4 of them and they are all pro antobiotics but are okay with the fact that I refuse but not this one so hopefully she wont be the one on call when I go into labor, plus we still arnt sure if we are going to UC ot have a HB at this point so we will see over all these midwives are the most NATURAL ones in town last birth they were supportive of Atbx decline, delayed cord clamping, no eye goop, vax,no drugs and all that...etc...
Baby is fine, I'm fine just super tired and starving but everything sounds icky
If baby is hyperthyroid (like I am) its metabolism speeds up resulting in weight loss, so if they notice a decrease or no increase in weight, they may opt to deliver early.
