Is this normal??

Thread Starter
For the first time in a long time I have started eating healthy. I have been watching my calories and fat as well as made sure the things that are going into my body are healthy. I have cut out a lot of my normal snacks (sodas, diet and regular, candy, and processed foods). I am breastfeeding a 6 week old but I feel like my diet has been beneficial.

My only concern is that my gut seems to be on edge all of the time (I guess from finally getting the fiber I need) and I am going to the bathroom a lot as well as feeling nauseous on and off. I guess I should mention this is the first solid week of bad food detox. Is it normal to get a little ill as your body comes off of the bad foods that it was used to? I did have that stomach virus a few weeks ago which may be lingering as well.

Any imput and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is normal to have the "detox flu". It usually lasts about 3-5 days.

I think it depends on your body and what you are giving up. Fiber can be irritating, especially the fiber from grains. Have you tried eliminating gluten?

I would make sure the flu is completely gone and continue to eat healthy. You body will thank you for it and you should not feel sick unless you are doing something that is not healthy with your diet.

If you have significantly increased your fiber intake at the same time that you've significantly decreased your fat intake, your gut is going to rebel. Some feeling of "detox" is normal, and certainly your gut will need to adjust to the increased fiber. But I would be careful not to reduce your fat intake below appropriate levels-- fats are necessary for health, and they help your body digest vegetables and whole grains. Try adding some healthy fats from natural sources to your meals-- organic butter and other whole organic dairy, cold-pressed olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, organic eggs.
