JUNEDuggers!

Thread Starter
Sort of like a June bug... but not.

A review of the thread guidelines:
This is the television forum. The purpose of the television forum is to discuss 18, 19, 20, Whatever Kids and Counting, the television show.

All posts must both adhere to the forum's purpose (see above) and the User Agreement, specifically
Quote:
Do not post in a disrespectful, defamatory, adversarial, baiting, harassing, offensive, insultingly sarcastic or otherwise improper manner, toward a member or other individual, including casting of suspicion upon a person, invasion of privacy, humiliation, demeaning criticism, name-calling, personal attack, or in any way which violates the law.
Defamatory = purposely harmful and/or untrue with the intention to malign. MDC is no longer hosting celebrity gossip, which should cover most of it, but we will also not host speculation of a harmful or overly personal nature, including allegations of abuse or armchair mental health diagnoses. This is also covered under "casting suspicion". If you can't prove it with a reliable source, don't post it as fact.

Baiting = trying to make end runs around the User Agreement and hinting that members posting to this thread on either "side" are somehow morally deficient. It will not be tolerated, and is not the purpose of this forum. Discuss the show, not the members who discuss the show.

Offensive/disrespectful: You can discuss your thoughts on their religious beliefs as they pertain to the show. But please, mind your language. We don't host any form of religious bigotry on MDC. Don't use words that would offend you if someone turned them around and used them to describe your own beliefs. Certainly, words like "cult" are NEVER appropriate when describing someone's religious beliefs.

Invasion of Privacy = tell-all blogs, aerial shots of private properties, etc.

Personal attack and namecalling: To clarify, you may state how you feel or how something makes you feel. You may feel certain actions are selfish, careless, or mean. You may not call someone selfish, careless, or mean.

This isn't the place to debate religion, family planning/fertility, discipline techniques, etc. If you want to have an extended conversation on those topics, please start a thread in the proper forum.

This thread will be opened tonight and will be actively moderated. The plan is to start a new thread each month. Posts that violate these guidelines will be removed and alerted. Jim-Bob and Michelle and their brood are certainly not core to MDC's purpose, and if these guidelines can't be adhered to, the thread will be removed.

As always, feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns.

Signed,
Modzilla

Ok... Can't wait to see the Duggars in school. I have to admit I love that they are willing to check out the "other side" so to speak. I think it's great that Michelle and Jim Bob are comfortable enough in what they believe and what they teach the kids that they are willing to explore how other people live their lives.

The episode tonight shows their kids visiting a public school. I don't know for how long, but Michelle just talks about how she is not against public school and she is fine with the kids seeing what it is like.

Huh. I'm interested to see tonight's episode also.

i was so happy to not hear anything negative about PS. I hear so many awful things online about PS from christians and I was so impressed with her. Michelle is just so awesome I would love to spend a weekend with her, hoping her calm spirit and patience would rub off on me LOL.

I've often thought that while I don't agree with a lot of the family's viewpoints, I would love to be that freaking ZEN. They are so calm! Growing up, my house was always loud and chaotic and everyone was so stressed and frazzled and I want to be different than that. Michelle Duggar seems like a great example to me of what I strive for in that particular area.

I loved the show. And the kids weren't "perfectly behaved" either. At the begining when they were talking about the homeschooling, and Michelle was awsome with them too.

In their book she talks about whispering and talking quietly to get a child's attention when they are not listening. The child has to quiet down and focus in order to hear what you are saying. Seeing it in action last night made me want to give it a try. It seemed to work.

Michelle is amazing. Even if you aren't on the same page with the Duggars as far as their philosophies/religion, etc., I think you have to agree she is remarkably calm and patient with her little ones. I don't catch the show often, but when I do, she is an inspiration.

I totally agree! She has so much going on and all those distractions and when one of the boys was giving her a hard time about getting his school work she was so patient with him! I seriously would have lost my cool.

I thought the public school episode was really good.

I also am really impressed by Michelle's calm in the face of so much distraction while homeschooling. I was kind of surprised they spend so much time on worksheets I would have expected her to be a more do it to learn it type.

After seeing the resteraunt style soda foutain and cup dispenser I think I understand the 30 cavities from the last episode...lol

I can't believe someone as focused on her kids would put a bouncy seat on the counter I thought everyone knew that is really dangerous.

On the plus side I thought it was great how much Michelle nursed the baby even at the assembly

I agree. I love the warm, loving environment the children live in.

I don't get the whole no-dancing thing, though. What's so wrong with dancing? Have we learned nothing from Footloose?
