Yes. Dave's rule of thumb is debt/loans of more than half your annual income goes to BS6.

*drums fingers on desk, trying not to be antsy*

Payday tomorrow! : My pay isn't as much as I was hoping, and I have some pricey supplements I have to purchase to keep preggo fatigue at bay... but I'll still be adding *something* to my midwife fund... less than 24 hours to go!

Our electric bill was lower than expected, so i was able to pay another $46+ on our debt...down to $110 now! I should be getting some money later this week for selling back my books (college) and possibly child support as well...goodbye debt! Hello FFEF:

Urmm...can you ask her to pay in advance? Many services require that you pay in advance for the coming week.

Glad you got paid...

Good news here.. I have 2 pt jobs (well actually 3) but i seem to be only working pt at the hospital as the other two never call... Well I went for a job interview yesterday which i thought sucked but hey must of gone ok as they called today... I got the job... it seems like they will have enough shifts for me.. so i am happy...

I was thinking of getting a 2nd pt job outside of nursing.. but i guess i will stay in... I am soo happy : if its enough extra i could get rid of this debt faster... and be out of BS2 shortly (since i moved my SL to BS6).. and start saving for my trip next year

I feel so stressed now. Our Ef was gone last month and this upcoming payday I have so many things going on that are not in the regular budget. The kids and I are also taking a trip to CA this summer to see my relatives so I am trying to save some for that (I know 'take a vacation' are far down on DR's list but we haven't seen them in over 6 years) My stepson talked about wanting to come out and visit but he doesn't know when (and I haven't seen my grandson yet) and he was talking about them driving out and how nervous he was about his car and driving that long (from PA to TX!!!!) and I jsut HAD to blurt out and offer to buy plane tickets whenever they wanted to come. I don't regret that but I opened my mouth too soon! And my kids just had dental visits and my 2 older girls need braces ($500 down per kid).

SO if you haven't fallen asleep by now LOL. How would you do this aFA saving? Would you wait on a EF and save a little at a time for each category? Or would you pick one thing and save towards it and then on to the next thing?

EF-$1000
CA-$500 (I am counting high for gas because I have no clue. I drive a Suburban and we live 10 hours away)

Stepson tickets (and his g-friend, grandson is under 2) $500 (hoping not more than that!)

Braces-$500 (if I get older dd first and wait on my 11 yo)

We do a 10 hour trip pretty regularly to see my parents in law, and it costs us around $50-75 in gas for one way. We have done it driving a Saturn and other times driving a Toyota Yaris, so yours will be more due to the Suburban, but I bet its a lot less than $500.

good to know!! Thanks!! I need to figure out my gas mileage
post #98 of 192
there is a thing on mapquest that will calculate your fuel cost for a trip... you enter your mpg and it gives you an estimate. of course who knows what gas prices will be tomorrow, much less that far in advance, but it can give you a good ballpark to shoot for right now, and if gas prices drop (yay) youll have a bit extra spending money, but keep an eye out for if they raise.

my thinking on taking trips is that what good is money if youve saved it in a bank instead of investing it in memories. i would do anything, even charge tickets or get a loan (DR would yell, i know) to get to go see my great-grandfather again. he is having his 85th birthday campout next weekend and we cant go.
and my parents are trying to save money so they can leave something behind when they are gone, but in doing so they dont have enough to fly over to see their new grand-daughter. i told them that no amount of money is worth forgoing family for. if its a frivilous trip then no way, but if its something like you havent seen them in years, or it might be your last chance to see an older relative, then go for it.

Do you have anything you could sell or have a yard sale? I agree that visits are important! I do though always feel there is a reason to spend money so make sure if you do take the trip its not a huge dent in your plans and you aren't paying for it for the next couple years
