Nettles - Page 4

I finally found this thread! Now, I can order nettles (leaves) from MRH. These sound like an overall great addition to any diet (food we eat). I still don't know where to find the sun infusion instructions, though. Anyone have a link?

Thanks!

Add water to herb in a jar with a lid. Set in the sun for the day.

We have a lot of sun here and our backyard faces West. I'm wondering if there are any guidelines for length of time in the sun or how hot the water should be (range).... Or, conversely, if none of that really matters.... love.gif

it kinda doesn't.  LOL.  At least if you ask me.  I tend to prefer to not have herbs in water for more than 8-12 hours, and I find I like them best if it's more like 3.  The water doesn't always get hot.  I find that there's a big difference between my physiological response when the water is warm vs when the water has gotten hot.

Just play.  That's my advice.  There are times when I crave a stronger infusion.  Intuitively I suspect that you extract more minerals when the water is hotter and more vitamins when it's just warm.  No proof from me though!

Thank you, dear!

I tend to like to read/hear the "rules" or "guidelines" and then go. I love playing with stuff like this. love.gif

Even recipes. I like to see one and then I substitute and leave out and what-have-you until some folks tend to think I no longer made whatever the recipe was.... biggrinbounce.gif It gives me a starting point for ratios of wet-to-dry ingredients and gives me the basic temp/time combination, ya know? winky.gif

I used to drink Nettle infusions daily until a few months ago. I moved and completely forgot to get some at the local HFS. I think monday when they are open I will have to stop by and stock up:) Maybe I'll grab some alfalfa and rrl too... any other suggestions?

... also, do any of you gals do anything with the wet herbs after the infusion is made? I was thinking of using them in a smoothie or a soup, I just want to be less wasteful!
