Warning--gross tmi!!

ARGH! WTF is up with the "opposite of constipation"?!?!?!

In my last pregnancy, my stomach was impervious...I could eat whatever I wanted and nothing upset it. Now I've been vacillating between diarrhea and mild constipation....I never seem to know what will upset my stomach, but when it gets upset, I'm running for the bathroom and then I'm in there for a LOOOOOONG time.

I'm not really a puker (a few times everyone in my office has gotten the stomach flu, one after the other, and I've never gotten it). This diarrhea almost feels like what I hear people describing about pregnancy vomiting....like you don't know what will bring it on. Maybe this is just the way my body is handling what might make another pregnant woman puke?!? Does that make any sense at all?

And what can I do about it? I will start taking more probiotics, but any ideas beyond that? Is it worth keeping a food journal to figure out the triggers? I don't want to spend the rest of this pregnancy afraid to eat anywhere other than at home!!!!

I only took the one dose of Excedrin because I was out of options...Won't be taking it again because go figure it didn't work. Tylenol didn't help either. I'm in search of a new Dr. because my current one is the reason I'm in this situation. She didn't stop to think that making me go cold turkey off of my SSRIs might cause something like this.

I thank you for the info I don't normally take a lot of drugs (I didn't take my Xanax unless I was in dire straits(I took 3 of them total in 30 days and that was cut down to 1/4 doses) and I was on a low low dose of Celexa, but my body reacts very strongly to medicines like those.) I try to find natural remedies to every ailment, but at the point I was yesterday with two screaming children, my blood pressure pulsing, and my brain feeling like it was going to swell out my eyeballs I decided to try the one thing I hadn't.

I'm a bit better today. I didn't end up going to the ER because I just can't justify the $50 co-pay when I started feeling a bit better. So I'm going to call around for a dr. appt. tomorrow with a new dr. and see how things go from there. I may also ring up my midwife and see what she thinks.
I hope you feel better! Your doctor definitely should have been weaning you off of them. Cold turkey's a big jolt for the body and withdrawal symptoms suck! Good luck with finding a new doctor. I hope it all works out.

I've thrown up in my mouth 4 times today. No out-and-out vomiting. Just a general low level of nausea that decides to come up my throat every now and again.

Yeah I did that earlier when I tried to eat a bowl of cereal after about 15 hrs with no food.

My guts are just...weird. Kinda' intermittently nauseated and achy. I got REALLY thirsty last night and chugged a half glass of water in two swallows...then those swallows HURT all the way down, it they were stretching my esophagus. Is that possible? Now my belly is just kinda' sore, and I have this low-level nausea going on that kicks into high gear when I have to change a diaper or do something gross. And I'm TIRED today. Absolutely dragging. No energy, and could totally take a nap right now.

http://safefetus.com/ is a great resource to find out what class specific drugs are.
Nope, valerian the herb. Why would you caution against it? Based on what? The problem with these herbs is that there aren't any really conclusive studies one way or the other. The only way to know is really to consult an expert herbalist.

Personally, I'd be more likely to take an herb in moderation in an extreme circumstance than a "chemical" medication. But everyone is different.

[QUOTE=FertileMertel;13887643][QUOTE=Mommy2Austin;13885907] Does anyone else use Papaya Enzyme?? I swear by the stuff ever since my midwife told me about it.

I tried using the papaya tablets during my last pregnancy but they didn't seem to do anything, but I had an extreme case. My heartburn turned into reflux, and I started throwing up in my sleep (inhaled, out the nose.) It was awful! I ended up taking Tagament prescribed by my midwife and it was a God send! I was very skeptical about taking meds in pregnancy but the acid was starting to erode my throat and I just couldn't take it anymore!
Same here. Rx meds for acid which caused pneumonia in my sleep.

I would refrain from using it because of the lack of safety studies on it in general. The studies done in pregnancy show that there is low risk, but still a risk to the child. It crosses the placenta and can affect the child in the same way as it affects the mother. It can cause an oral cleft (like cleft lip or cleft palate), sedation, decreased muscle tone, and breathing problems. Depending on the amount that you take, the newborn can suffer from withdrawal symptoms.

Valerian works with the benzodiazepine receptors. Benzodiazepine drugs include (brand name) Xanax, Librium, Klonopin, Valium, Dalmane, Ativan, etc (there are more, this was just a small example). While Valerian is much more mild than the examples, it's still potentially dangerous. I've looked up each of the example drugs I posted in regards to pregnancy. Most are class D, one is class C and one is class X.

Also to add http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/valerian.html

Many drugs are made from herbs. Just because something is from an herb, it doesn't mean that it's safe for mom or for fetus/baby. I'm not posting this to scare you, but because I really want you to have a safe pregnancy. If your doctor oks it, then who am I to say anything? Though I would still caution against it.

Lan,

You and I will be agreeing to disagree, then. Western Medicine takes herbs, iscolates compounds, adds additives and then serves them up as "medicine". Herbs are a Whole Food. They are processed differently in the body, so looking up medicines that share that compound, when seperated out from all of the other compounds that G-d has given to the whole food to be processed with is truly unfair.

I certainly wouldn't trust a western medical doctor (with no real or extensive knowledge or training in herbology) for information about herbs (or any other modalities of medicine, for which they weren't trained). But as I said before, it's everyone's personal choice and responsibility.

But since we are on the topic are there any qualified herbalists here who might be able to comment on a one time use tincture of valerian (or even the herb itself, brewed in a tea or taken in capsuel form) for migrane during pregnancy?

It's ok to agree to disagree. Everyone is free to make their own choices. I'm just letting you know that the advice comes from both myself, who is studying and is working in the western medical field and my sister who works in naturopathic and homeopathic pharmacology at a wellness center and a natural pharmacy.

Big deep breaths Before you know it you'll be as big as a house with a grin on your face basking in your pregnancy and all its splendor

I'm really starting to stress about my LACK of symptoms. Last week I felt very very tired. Today, no issues at all! The only thing I have going on is frequent peeing (waking up in the night even).

With DD I had super nose, nausea, enlarged and tender bbs and a really metallic taste in my mouth, not to mention sleeping 13hrs per night.

I've been thinking maybe no symptoms means everything's not progressing as it should.
I had some cramping/pulling feeling since I tested positive last week. That's now disappeared... Still have sore BBs, had some gas and constipation issue this weekend, and tired. Should I be worried that the crampy pulling feeling is gone? It's almost like I don't feel pregnant anymore...

Ok everyone thats worried about lack of symptoms...

Big deep calming breaths!! Symptoms are random and differ pregnancy to pregnancy. You could have the worst symptoms with one pregnancy and none with the next. Don't let the little things like that get to you and start stressing you out. Everything is fine

my hip flexors are killing me. I had problems with them last pregnancy but that was 3rd trimester. This is a little too early!!
My back is killing me and I am so bloated that I feel like the end of pregnancy when all your organs are shoved up into your lungs. Maybe that's where the bad heartburn is coming from?
