Hello! I haven't bought everything for my newborn stash yet, but have a list in mind. Let me know what you think? things to add? things to take off the list? Thanks for your help!

30 infant size IPFs or CPFs (can't decide, any input?)
2 newborn size Imse Vimse Soft Covers
2 x-small Thirsties covers
2 newborn size Bummis Super Whisper Wraps
6 size small FB
6 snappis
6 bumGenius diaper doublers/newborn inserts (microfiber terry)
will probably knit 1-2 wool soakers and make my own cloth wipes from some old flannel sheets

and to try out for possible diapering systems as baby gets bigger-
1 bumGenius OS 3.0
1 Happy Heiny's OS Pocket 2.0
1 Wahmies OS

Looks great! You've got a good plan going there. My only comments would be that you probably don't need that many snappi's - it's not like they need to go in the washer or anything. I have three and that's worked well for us, though we don't use pf's exclusively. 4 might be ideal.

Don't forget a wetbag. It's a lifesaver for going out. You'll also want a pail/garbage can and a liner of some sort.

Start researching detergents now if you haven't yet!

Good luck!

I think it looks fine, and CPFs and IPFs are both good, except that the infant size never fit dd very well. They were too long at birth and bulky when folded over, then she outgrew them around the waist practically overnight. If I were doing prefolds for the newborn phase, I would get the orange-edged from GMD, or if I couldn't afford those I would go for newborn prefolds from somewhere else.

Other than that, pins (Snappis are fine but I like having some of both and a brand newborn isn't that wiggly so it's an ideal time to learn to pin), wipes, wet bags, pail liners (2 of each are nice since 1 will usually be in the wash), and a minishower (not important at first but you WILL need it later on).

I'd get preemie or newborn prefolds, not infant. They are way too big at first, but don't last long.

Another option that I've heard someone mention is that you can trim the infant prefolds to be the size of the newborn ones from GMD. You should only need to take off a couple of inches.

The newborn prefold question depends a lot on the size of your baby at birth- my ds was 9lbs and fit fine into infant premium CPFs- but for my current pregnancy I got some from green mountain diapers, both the newborn and the infant, because I made myself one square diaper and just LOVED how it fit him (since I already had him I had no time to make more).

The newborn stash sounds great in my opinion. I just wanted to mention a diaper I just learned about that seems to be extremely size adjustable (from 6 lbs up to toddler) and has lots of good raves called Softbums. You may want to consider them for your diapers later on, they sound great.

You should look at the cloth-eez prefolds at Green Mountain Diapers. I just got some of the organic infant prefolds(yellow edge). I am loving these things. I have been cloth diapering for about 6 years and have tried a booshoo amount of diapers and prefolds and these are top of the line. They are not like normal prefolds. They are actual cut short so they fit in the covers perfectly with no folding over to fit and no bulk. The organic ones are indian cotton and they have gotten softer and softer with every wash. My 5 mo. ds actually loves to hold them when he nurses. If you choose the organic they are only $5-$7 more than the non-organic ones.
Also, I would get a dozen or so of the newborn prefolds(orange edge). The infant PF's will be a bit big for the first 2-4 weeks(depending on weight...my last baby was 9.4 and needed the nb for a couple of weeks) and the best thing is when they are too small you can still use them for burp clothes or they are excellent stuffers for pocket diapers or for doublers when needed.

If you like wool, you could also look into the Imse Vimse wool wrap covers. They are exactly like the Imse Vimse soft covers, but wool. They are also machine washable but a bit on the spendy side. I do love imse vimse covers, reg or wool.

Does your username mean you are in Pittsburgh? You could come for a cloth orientation at my store.

This is from my blog about what I used on my most recent baby:

Many newborns pee a lot and poop all the time. For this reason, you need 24-36 diapers. My last baby had to be changed every hour for the first month, so I really needed that many diapers! The cheapest way to go would be 2 or 3 dozen infant prefolds and 6 to 10 extra small covers, with 4 Snappis. This would likely get you through two to three days and be very economical since the infant prefolds can be used as pocket diaper inserts and boosters later. Learning to use a prefold on a newborn is easy because newborns stay still while you change them!

Kissaluvs size 0 fitteds are really popular for newborns, and for good reason - they are a fitted diaper that is really easy to put on, but they are truly small enough for a newborn, and their cotton fleece texture really grabs and traps those runny newborn poops. These fit best under an extra small Thirsties cover, but a Bummis is fine as well. If you wanted to use Kissaluvs exclusively, you would need about 2 dozen and 6-8 covers.

The absolute simplest way to cloth diaper a newborn is with pockets or all-in-ones. FuzziBunz makes an extra small pocket with crossover snaps that really fits a newborn and is super-easy for anyone to put on. The SposoEasy all-in-one newborn size is a great option with a soft cotton inner and Aplix closure. The Green Acre Designs small can fit larger newborns and is super-cute. BumGenius! diapers are one-size from 7 to 35 pounds and so are a very economical choice. They might be a bit bulky on a newborn, but that’s okay! Baby won’t mind and you’re saving money! If you choose this type of diapers exclusively, plan on 2 dozen.

(With whatever diapers you get, you need as many wipes as you have diapers, plus another half-dozen or dozen. Get some flannel for pees and little poops, and some textured cotton velour for bigger poops. Don’t forget wipe solution, rash cream, wetbag and pail liners, and the Diaper Sprayer. You will have these for the whole time you have children in diapers.)

I recommend getting some of each type, for a couple of reasons: 1) you don’t know what shape your baby will be or how he will pee and poop; 2) you don’t know what diaper you will like; 3) it’s good to have some very simple diapers that anyone can change (and that you can change at 3 a.m. or while out); and 4) you need so many diapers that it can be too expensive to buy all pockets and all-in-ones. My stash for my last baby was:

18 infant prefolds

4 Snappis

6 Kissaluvs size 0

6 Kissaluvs booster doublers

6 extra small covers (Thirsties, Bummis Super Brite, Bummis Super Whisper Wrap)

3 extra small FuzziBunz

3 extra small SposoEasy

3 small Green Acre Designs

3 bumGenius! one-size (both the 3.0 and the organics)

That makes 36 diapers and I was washing every 2.5 days. My baby wore these diapers for 2 months, at which point she fit into smalls. She could still wear the infant prefolds until 4 months. Of course the one-size bumGenius! still fit her at 11 months!
