My Home Waterbirth on the Today Show Tomorrow Morning!

The Today Show is doing a segment on a program called Operation Special Delivery (OSD) tomorrow morning at 8:15 am est. OSD is a program where doulas offer their services for free to women who are having babies while their husbands are deployed. I think they will be showing at least part of my 3rd son's home waterbirth. I'm very excited!

Thanks. I just hope they don't use the sound. It might scare someone.

Thank you for letting us know, and thank you for all that your husband AND YOU do for our country!

Thanks for the heads up -I just set my DVR. What a great program (I am a former military wife - so glad my husband's days are over!). And congratulations!

Thank you for what you do. I don't know how much of my doula anyone will see since she's the one behind the camera. Since my birth was at home there wasn't as much doulaing for her to do.

If I can find a clip on their website, I'll post it later.

I'm pregnant again and my husband is deployed again. He's supposed to get home from deployment about a month before I'm due but he then has to go to a school in another state for 5 months 9 days before my due date. *sigh*

I have a lot of respect for you. Our first son was born when my DH was deployed. He actually took leave for the birth, but Baby came late and I was in labor when he left to go back to Kuwait. I really don't know who it's harder on - us or them. But for everyone's sake, I pray that we won't have to do another birth during deployment!!
My SIL is about to begin her husband's first deployment, just weeks before their baby is due. That is one thing that I don't think people think about, but so many military families have had to do it, even in today's times. At least today, as opposed to former wars, we can let our men know immediately instead of months later.

I have a lot to do this morning, but am hoping to catch the segment!!

The Today Show was a disappointment from a personal standpoint. They showed me in the tub holding ds right after he was born for just a split second. If I didn't know what I was seeing, I wouldn't have known what I was seeing.

Hopefully, it at least brought awareness to the public of all the women, especially very young ones, who are having babies while their husbands are deployed to war zones. I definitely think the civilian communities need to step up and help out more.

I saw you! Of course, I didn't know it was you until I read your last comment, but I wondered if it was you.

I just can't watch anything like this without crying. I can't NOT watch it, but I cry every time.
I'm sorry it was disappointing, but like you said, hopefully it will raise awareness and support.
Thanks for letting us know about it.

I shouldn't be disappointed. It's not about me. I can't help wishing they had showed a little more of the birth, though.

I saw it and it made me cry, too. I'm also sensitive to the military community having been there. I consider myself very lucky, though, that we didn't have kids until DH was done and out because the thought of doing all this without him makes me cry just thinking about it. It's easy for civilian families to have a passing thought about what military families go through, but military spouses have the toughest job in the world in my opinion, especially with children involved. DH and I try to contribute time and money to as many programs as possible to continue to support our troops.

Here's the link if you missed it. I'm the one in the tub right after the segment about the 21 year old pregnant woman staying with her aunt and uncle while her dh is deployed.
