yesterday dd and i head for the mall to return a shirt. then we go into Lane Brayant to buy underwear. she is getting antsy and spinning the racks around like really fast. i decide to get what i need and leave . as we are at this round table with underwear very neatly displayed. i guess she figures it could spin, after i asked her not to, and she flipped the entire thing over! everything was on the floor! and you know i was n't as embarassed as i should have been. i think people thought it was an earthquake, because the table came down with a lould crash. dd was very embarassed. i could tell, she just stood there with a shocked look on her face. i was angry at her. i said" did n't i tell you not to spin it"? she says "are you mad at me"? I said "well, i'm not too happy"

one woman at one point said" Oh, my God"!

the sales associate said that the fixtures dd broke were very expensive.

the worst part was that i had to hang around because i still needed bras.

Ouch, poor you!

Life is so hard with little kids. No wonder why they made up nurseries, schools, babysitters...

You poor thing. I can only imagine how you felt.

Worst thing that happend to me in a store was when ds and I were in a tiny toy store in the mall and he peed right on their rug while playing at the train table!!! He had told me a LONG while before that he had to go and I was going to take him but got sidetracked and well the rest is history. I ran over to Childrens Place to buy him a new outfit but man was I embarassed!! We all have those kinds of days...as long as she was not hurt things are ok. Plus I bet she never spins a rack again!

How old is she? How big?

They're lucky no one was under something so easily toppled and should consider setting their displays up in such a way that a CHILD cannot overturn them.

Admittedly, you and she are lucky she wasn't under it either, thank goodness! But the display shouldn't be unstable enough for a child to overturn it. What if there really Had been an earthquake?

Well, it really is kind of funny. You and your DD will probably look back at this years from now and just laugh your heads off. Like, oh man, you should have seen people scatter like there was an earthquake. You should have seen their faces! And so on. Stuff like that happens. When I was 7, I was tuning cartwheels in the living room and knocked the Christmas tree over breaking almost every ornament. I was a big deal then, but my mom and I laugh about it now when it comes up every now and then around Christmas.

I agree with Meiri, though, about the safety issue. Something that a child can easily topple should not be in a store. And I think it was pretty rude of that salesperson to lecture you about that item being so expensive, especially seeing that you were embarrased already. I mean it's not like any of the merchandise was broken.
