Costco Laundry Detergent

Thread Starter
Aside from keeping as few chemicals as possible away from the baby (which I think is really important) what is the issue with different detergents? I have been following this forum for a while and just ordered my first round of CD'S! I got 1 doz chinese unbleached prefolds & 1 doz indian unbleached prefolds, & 4 covers. I want to have the right set up to wash them. Is there an issue with the kirkland/costco stuff that we already have? Or do I need to buy something just for baby?

It's somewhat likely that your baby will do fine with diapers washed in whatever detergent you normally use for your family's laundry. However, if it has optical brighteners in it, your covers won't last as long. And if your baby develops a skin sensitivity, you may have to switch.

No matter what kind of detergent you use, though, and no matter how much or how little of it you use, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO MAKE SURE IT ALL GETS RINSED OUT. If the detergent isn't fully rinsed, the dirt won't rinse out either.

Rinsing is defintely a big deal as the previous poster mentioned. I tried the costco detergent and it didn't work for us. However, we live in an area with extremely hard water and that can make a big difference. Your experience with various detergents will be different based on the composition of your water.
