Pagan Summer Camp 2009 *Yoga Workshop*

elcome to the Yoga Workshop for Pagan Summer Camp 2009! :

Yoga is better learned by doing than reading, so I intend to keep my posts brief and just include a series of poses to do.

If you have never done yoga before- jump right in. A yoga mat isn’t necessary, just comfy clothes to move around in. Kids love yoga too.

(Disclaimer- if your body doesn’t feel good doing this, STOP)

Sun salutation

I'm a begginer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPQxS...eature=related

I’ve done this before http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBc5v...eature=related

I just watched Shiva Rea's dancing warrior and that was beautiful! If my little one (and my 5 month old nephew I watch today!) let me I am definitely doing that take on a ss later.

Thank you Saphire, for sharing!

i love yoga! i sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago, so i'm just doing simple sun salutations and easy matwork. i dont know when i will be able to do warrior poses again.

I have tennis elbow, so I have to tone things back, but I really miss my morning routine. I'll join ya'll vicariously until I have the go ahead to do more than a little stretching.

perfect timing!

i'm getting to do yoga the past bit and the rest of this week, cause dh is around to take ds (i've never gotten the whole baby and momma yoga thing to work for us, alas.). i can not express how i miss yoga when i dont get to do it. i've done it my whole life, so it's really part of my practice, and i long for it when i dont get the time.

Indigo and Proudmomoftwins (and anyone else missing practice due to minor ailments) check out the pregnancy link- she's seated for the first part, and it seems really mellow while still getting in good stretches.

My littlest dd is so cute- she loves making up poses and we take turns "leading" practices together.

I forgot to menition, DS came home from school the other day. And was showing DP "dance" moves... well they were yoga poses. There was a hand out in his backpack, from PE class.

He says "See, Dad, bridge & dog like Mami does." He is pretty into it. Going to see if we can figure out a working relationship in the mornings.

Thanks for the reminder, your post got me thinking so I let my fingers do a little google-fu (yoga tennis elbow) and came up with.

Subbing.

I need to finish clearing the clutter in the office (we emptied the closet... boxes all over the office now ) to have a place to do yoga!

I was just thinking about starting a morning routine of gentle exercices... this is perfect!

subbing so I can come back to this when I DON"T have pneumonia If I so much as consider bending over I follow by coughing up a lung, so i'll have to watch from afar

Sweet! Thank you thank you thank you! I so totally need a kick in the bum to get back into my yoga practice. I'd been using my current big bellied state as an excuse to slack I think.

My girls really enjoy yoga though, and will drop into poses at totally random moments. It's a reminder to focus on the...hmmm....not spiritual, but, errrr... "deeper" meaning since the girls aren't doing something because they suddenly feel the need to stretch muscle X. They're doing it because the energy of the moment seems to call for a specific physical response.

thanks saphire! i can use those tomorrow, or later if kiddos will go to bed

: Yay. I'm going to give this a go tonight before I go to bed, I think.

I've gotten this post ready 3 times, and had to re-do do to interruptions. Third time's a charm right?
Yoga has a rep as being good for stress reduction- and I need it today! My favorite poses to help me chill out are

Lion pose http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/1705
Kids love this one! A good, deep roar can really be therapeutic.

Child's pose http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/475

( If you scroll down a bit you'll see a link for the Ogden web series. I can't be held responsible for time lost watching, lol. It's good stress reduction too.)

A couple Moon Salutation sequences

i have the rodney yee back yoga, but i never got into it... i'll have to try some of those, though honestly, the thing that really helps my back is tapping...

: (that's me doing tree pose, lol)
i like the rodney yee power yoga... not just because it is quasi aerobic either...
lol, yes, i find watching him is quite as good as doing the yoga itself.

actually, though, he is my fave. his power yoga total body is amazing. i lost 30 lbs doing basically just that one... hoping it works again, once the boy stops nursing, lol...

i also have his meditation one... in yosemite... it's stunningly beautiful, but i've never actually done it all the way thru, i get too distracted by the... scenery...
