So sorry for the long delay in posting this ... Elsie Margaret was born on May 20th by c-section via our amazing friend and surrogate, M.
M had been on bedrest a month before the birth due to pre-e and GD and she was at our house. We had to go to the hospital a lot, for non-stress tests and ultrasounds. She started to go into labour on May 14th with contractions every 20 then every 15 and then 8 mins apart. That weekend was a long weekend in Ontario, and we went to the hospital birthing triage a lot, but the contractions would not show up on the TOCO thingy.
Long story short, the amniotic fluid was very low and when they finally saw that in an ultrasound on Tuesday, they said the baby had to come out the next day.
So Wednesday morning, Elsie made her debut my c-section, I was in the delivery room, but DH had to wait outside - they would only let one of us in
Our OB kept saying that the baby would be HUGE and probably have to go in the nursery or the NICU because of the GD, but she was absolutely perfect 9/9 and had her sugars tested a few times and she had no problems at all. She was 7 lbs 7 oz and 19.5 " long.
Because they kept telling us how big she would be, we didn't have any newborn clothing or small diapers. The outfit we bought to bring her home in was HUGE! Luckily we had Seventh Generation sposies which she is still wearing. The MotherEase one size dipes we have rub on her umbilical cord right now. Totally wish I had bought the Kissaluvs. Luckily, we can compost (green bin) disposable diapers here, so I don't feel too bad about using the sposies for now, but man they stink after a few days in the garage! Been washing wipes every day, can't wait to add CD to the mix!

I caught a terrible, terrible cold the second day Elsie was home which totally sucked. I couldn't even touch my sweet baby girl. DH was a rockstar and managed to do everything himself
He was so amazing. The cold is finally leaving a week and a half later. My autoimmune conditions flare up when I am sick, so it was really a rough week but we are over it and I am so happy

: Which is why I have been MIA - just trying to cope for a while and bond with the sweetest baby ever (no offense - lol).
Every day I fall more in love with our sweet baby, both of us just stare at her and marvel at her perfection. She loves being swaddled and being in a pouch sling. She also loves her Soothie newborn soother, she has a very strong need to suck and my baby fingers were chapped
I am so grateful for our amazing surro, who was such a trooper through a difficult pregnancy. I am trying to think of a appropriate gift to show her our thanks, but nothing I can think of even comes remotely close. She has made our family complete and we are 100% over the moon with our baby girl.
