Sunhat!

Every time a family member has a baby I knit them a hat. Which is cool: all the babies in the last 4 years (since I started knitting!) have been winter babies. Soft wools... yay.

My cousin is due in about 6 weeks. Oh noes, a summer baby!! I found some very soft cotton (which I think will be lighter than my usual wools, though it's not that big of a difference I don't think!) and have no pattern!

I've been googling my butt off and have yet to find a PLAIN knit sunhat. I'm almost to the point where I might have to learn to write a pattern... and write one, lol. I'm a very novice knitter so the pattern thing seems a bit... ambitious.

Basically I'm looking for a basic knit hat with a wide (soft!) rim on it. NOT a lacy one. Not ones with flowers knit into them. You know? It's for a boy. And I know this cousin won't use an even slightly girly hat on her baby boy.

Have any of you seen such a pattern? (Or can you suggest pattern-writing resources? ) Thank you!!

Is knitting your only craft skill? Could you sew a sun hat?
