How old do you think "Dora" is supposed to be?

I was flipping though the tv guide and as I passed Dora it said something about "7 year old Latina girl "Dora" saves blah blah"

Did anyone else know "Dora" the explorer is supposed to be 7 ? She always seem very tiny (ha ha yes, i know she is a cartoon) but her body seems very toddler like (i'd guess 4-5 years old) but i guess her speech is mature and ya know she is bilingual too so i guess she sounds older but I swear I would NEVER have guessed she was supposed to be 7!

I have no idea what the point of this thread was but I was just so shocked! Am i the only one?

Yeah, her body is totally like that of a 5 year old but her language is much more mature than most 5 year olds. I think it's her pot belly that makes her look youngish; my 7.5 yr old hasn't had a pot belly in some time.

Did you see that they are making a new version of Dora who is supposed to be a pre-teen?

I totally had to jump in here. I saw a picture of the new Dora a few months back. I don't like it personally.

Here,

I don't know if that'll work, but we'll see.

I think the new Dora looks cute.

My daughter has many outfits in that style.

In addition to the potbelly, the largeness of her head does make her look very young.

As for older Dora, doesn't look horrible to me. Too much tacky jewelry for my taste, and her hair is too long and features completely exaggeratedly-feminine/sexy, but what else is new in kids' cartoons? Anybody ever see Maya and Miguel?

I think the older Dora is cute, too. My DD is 6 and isn't much into Dora anyway though. She says she doesn't like her, but she does like Diego. I think they're both annoying.

At least the older dora covers her belly.

I never knew that dora was 7 though. i figured 5ish. I can't stand the show though, we try to avoid it at all costs.

I'm pretty sure Dora is supposed to be 5 and Diego 8. But I'm not sure where I got that idea from.

OK, TV.com says Diego is 8. No info on Dora though. And the wiki articles don't seem that well written.

Oh wow, I wouldn't have guessed, either! However, we recently started turning on her show on Univision... It's the opposite of the regular version in that it's 98% Spanish and 2% English, and the vocabulary is really excellent. I guess with her vocabulary, the age makes more sense.

I'm not a huge fan, but it's so hard to find good Spanish-language resources in the US that don't use a heavily Mexican vocabulary.

How is her hair too long? It's the same length as my 5 year olds... (and mine)

I think the new one looks fine. In fact I can say that I've seen many of the 4th and 5th grade girls make the transition from baby faced kids to slimmer, taller, prettier tweenish girls over the last few months. It's amazing. Our sitter changed from a kid to a GIRL in just a few months.

I think the original Dora looks about 5-6 and the newer one looks about 10.

I hate Dora. I hate her yelling, I hate that she hangs out with a monkey all the time. I love listening to my 3 year old get sassy because she answers Dora's question the first time but then asks again. "Dora, I SAID, MOUNTAIN!!!" It's hilarious!

6 or 7 ?

I always figured she had to be at least 7- otherwise why would she be off playing by herself without adult supervision?

BTW, I always imagined that her adventures took place in her backyard while she dragged around her toy monkey, and only pretended he could talk.

I figure the same thing about Diego, only I can't decide if "Baby Jaguar" is a real, adult cat or a stuffed toy.
