Can you recommend a black-out fabric

for curtains for DS's room? With a link for online ordering would be GREAT!

I went to JoAnn Fabrics yesterday and asked for blackout fabric (and explained why I was buying it). Bought the fabric and some Stitch Witchery. Hired a student to play with DS while I cut and ironed. When I put up the curtains, it was not dark in the room. It was twilight, perhaps, but not dark. After talking with a friend who had purchased blackout fabric at the same JoAnn's, I am sure that I bought the wrong fabric. I cannot take another afternoon off (JoAnn's is an hour away), and evening with a sitter to sew curtains again. I'd like to order fabric from online.

Thanks.

true blackout fabric is coated with a rubbery stuff (sort of like PUL) and you can't see any light through the fabric, but light can get around the curtain if it doesn't cover enough of the window. Make sure you confirm what the issue is with ythe ones you made before you scrap them

I have used the blackout fabric with decent results but the best black-out curtains I've got were of heavy poplin in navy blue. I used 2 layers and they work the best. We also have dark red ones but the light comes through a bit and makes them glow, which *is* kinda cool but not what I was going for

Ohhh, that is so frustrating for you to go through that!

I have thermal drapes from Penneys, and it does the same thing, twilight, but not pitch black. What I did do, was mount the Roc Lon blackout lining on a simple tension rod inside the window frame. That way I could still use the curtains but have the true black out I desire. Only thing is it's not terribly attractive looking on its own, but maybe you could figure something out.

I just sewed black felt to the back of our drapes. Works fine. Not entirely black, but dark enough.

How old is your LO? Mine certainly cares less about light now that she's 21 months, as opposed to 9 months when I initially did the project.
