Bug repellents w/ lemon eucalyptus

We live in the woods, and deer ticks are really bad in our yard. I have some natural repellent made with lemon eucalyptus oil. My question is: what is the best way to apply this to our bodies?

Should I spray all over? Just on our clothes? Just our legs?

The spray that I make is one that has a very fine mister bottle, so I'm able to spray it directly on exposed skin, but it basically gets on our clothes at the same time..yet without saturating us.So,maybe something like this? Also....lavender,sage and thyme are supposed to be good repellents for deer ticks

I would like to make an all around bug spray for going hiking with my toddler. I am considering eucalyptus, sage and tto in a carrier oil with spf like olive oil or coconut oil. Could anyone recommend anything else to add?

How do you make it?
