"Greener" disposable diapers?

Hi all! We cloth diaper 95% of the time, but I will admit to using sposies when we're gone running errands most of the day. I'd like to try out the green-er brands, but don't know what to start with.

If you have experience with any of the following "green-er" disposable diapers and wipes, would you please give a review?
Thanks!

-7th Generation
-Tushies (gel free)
-Earths Best
-365 Whole Foods store brand
-Nature Baby Care

7th Generation is the only one on your list I've tried. They were...ok. We had some problems with leaks, though. I'm not sure if this is a baby-shape issue and we just didn't get a good fit, or if they tend to leak. We'll have to see what other people say here. They also smell a tiny bit "funny" (not funny ha ha) when wet.

One that's NOT on your list that we've tried is Nature Babycare (available at Babies R Us and Target here in Minneapolis). I like these better than 7th generation. They don't feel plastic-y like most diapers, don't have a weird diaper smell, and seem to contain things well. Here's the web site if you want to read about them:

Thanks! I just updated my list to include them.

g-Diapers might be an option? I haven't tried them myself and I've heard mixed reviews. They are flushable and biodegradeable.

Nature Care are my favorite. I have also had good luck with seventh generation, they just tend to leak more frequently and I much prefer Nature Care diapers (and wipes).

We love 7th Gen. diapers. My LO gets a rash in any other diaper, so when we do sposies we go with those. But I have to agree, they do smell kind of...um...icky.

I'm interested in trying the Nature Babycare...

I have tried all of the listed brands and my two favorite are 7th Generation and Nature Babycare. I like them for different reasons. The draw back for the 7th Gen is the smell. the Nature Babycare, though, isn't as flexible. I think it is harder to get a good fit.

Incidentally, I have also used gDiapers in BSWW and in their own covers and they work well too. I get the inserts with the Nature Babycare diaper bags (the disposable kind you put the diaper in to throw away?!!!) and throw the poopy inserts in one of the bags before throwing away. We go to a family camp and stay in an old dormitory and I wouldn't ever try to flush the liner! So I toss the wet ones straight into the bin and the poopy ones as mentioned into a biodegradable bag.

I have tried Seventh Generation, Whole Foods, and Earth's Best sposie dipes (these brands are available in my local stores). Of those, I found the Earth's Best to be the most absorbant. But, I have read the best reviews on Nature Baby Care diapers.

I have tried Earth's best, Nature Baby Care and 7th Gen. I actually use Earth's best at night and really like them. I have to say my sister uses Nature Baby Care and loves them, but they seriously felt like cardboard to me. 7th Generation were also very hard. Earth's best feel almost as soft as Pampers to me. I know they are not great, but I use them at night for my heavy wetter (tried too many other things to count).

Good luck.

from my understanding the natures baby care is the only biodegradable disposable diaper that exists! they worked well for us when we needed them, but you do kinda have to pull them apart, but when you are used to using cloth that is not really a big deal.

We use disposables for night and on rare occasion for outings/sitters. I used to get the Seventh Generation for this purpose, but my 14 mo started getting horrible rashes from those diapers.

We usually use Kroger generics for nighttime, but we tried the Nature Baby care recently. While I don't know if I will buy them again because of $, they were pretty great. I did find that I had to change much more frequently than a regular disposable or they would leak. I did like that there was no yucky gel beads and that they seemed more breathable. I just wish they were a bit less expensive since I have 2 in diapers. I am thinking of buying more though and just using them for night only and using our cloth for going out.

I have used Tushies, 7th Gen, and Nature baby care. Of the three the Tushies are my fav and 7th gen, least.

Tushies-#1 feature for me is gel-free. They are the only sposie that are. Because they are gel free they are compostable (except for plastic tabs). They are much thicker than modern sposies because they do not have the gel, but if you are used to CDs it shouldn't be an issue. The tabs are sticky like tape not velcro, but I don't really care about that. I have never had a problem with leaking.

Nature baby-I think these are a good option. They are very soft and thin. No problems leaking, but have gel.

7th Gen-Very thin and brown (chlorine free) which I guess bothers some people. I have had problem with leaking and again, contain the gel.

I use the 365 (whole foods) brand wipes and I love them. They are super soft, like cloth, and durable. Alcohol free so I never have to worry about them irritating my sensitive baby's skin.

I loved Tushies diapers and wipes

I tried a couple of brands when DD was a newborn and i just loved the Tushies and their wipes. I liked that they didn't have that chemical gel.

the nature baby care diapers are interesting...but it is hard to tell if they are truly gel-free, or if they just keep the gel far from baby. the wording on their website is a bit hard to pin down. i think i will email them and see what they say...i'll let ya'll know what i hear

What about the new Huggies "organic" sposies? Anyone tried them? Thoughts? I'm assuming we'll be using sposies for the first couple weeks till this guy fits in our BGs, so was looking at the options at babies r us today and noticed them...

I have tried the Huggies organic sposies. They are soft and smell less then regular ones, but I think the core is still all gel. We have also tried a brand called Natural Choice which are chlorine free and use a conbination of gel and a kind up pulp dirived from corn. The only time we've had a leak issue is over one night. They aren't as soft as the Huggies organic (or the cloth ones we usually use) but seem to do in a pinch.

We have now ditched the Nature Babycare and have a pack of Earth's Best that we occasionally use when away from home. The Nature Babycare were nice, I liked them. My LO outgrew the size 1 pretty quickly (we'd used about 4 diapers from the pack when he outgrew them...we don't use disposables much). So I went out and bought size 2's. They were only a fraction of an inch wider than the size 1's! They were just longer...So they didn't fit either. Annoying. If you have a wide baby, I don't recommend the Nature Babycare.

The Earth's Best seem fine. I've used 3 or 4 of them. No problems with leaks. The tabs on these also seem stretchier than the Nature Babycare tabs, so I don't have to be extra careful to avoid red marks on his upper thigh.

I'll be curious to see what they say. I don't *think* they have gel, but maybe it's somehow mixed in. When we were on vacation last week DS's diaper got soaked (from pee and the ocean) and broke apart everywhere. What the insides looked like, was a bunch of cotton. Didn't seem similar at all to those bead-gel nasty things in mainstream disposables.

The nature babycare dipes are so thin, I will be (pleasantly) surprised if they don't have the gel.

The "organic" Huggies have the same SAP gel that all of their diapers do. It's simply covered with a layer "containing organic cotton" (i.e., a little bit mixed in to whatever else they use) and using vitamin E on the inside layer near baby's skin.

I requested a sample of them so I could see what they're like, and put a call in to their info line. The person who answered did, eventually, concede that they're pretty much just like all of their other dipes, save the softer exterior.
