Name this 90's song please...pretty please...it is killing me

What is that song from the 90's that mentions the true story of a couple (or was it a family?) that drives out into the desert in a camper (I think it was an camper?) to die? It sounds morbid but the song wasn't really morbid I don't think. It was SUPER popular but I can't even hear the song on my head or come up with any lyrics. I thought it was by Everclear, but I am not having any luck finding it. Please help because I can't stop racking my brain about it.

I love Fastball. I heard that song was based on a true story.

You know, I loved, loved, loved that song when I was a teen, but now as a mother with kids, I kind of loathe it. The whole idea of abandoning your children so that you can get out of the responsibility of your life just really sticks in my craw. Okay, rant over, back to your regularly scheduled program.

ETA: As someone who suffers from severe depression, I totally understand the desire and motivation to end your life. I just don't feel like this song is about that kind of sickness.

Actually the song is not about suicide, at least I don't think so. The story goes that it's based on an older couple who disappeared.

According to this,

they were not all "there" anymore mentally (alzheimer's & brain surgery) and they think that they got lost or confused or something. They were found at the bottom of a canyon 3 days' drive away.

Fastball bassist Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading the articles (the band is from Austin). He says, "It's a romanticized take on what happened" - he "pictured them taking off to have fun, like they did when they first met."
I know too much, I guess. The band is from here and I know one of the members' wife.
