Tomato leaves turning yellow from top down!

I'm pretty sure it's not blight, as the lower leaves look ok. But the two cherries we bought are starting to get variegated (yellow along the vascular system) for a day or two, then are turning really pale (leaves and stems) and part of the leaves are browning and drooping. I didn't notice anything going on inside the stem, and there aren't any insects that I can see.
Dh thinks that maybe the nearby spruce tree is to blame, but one of the tomatoes isn't that close to it.

Any ideas?
Thanks ladies!

I want to say you're lacking some nutrient in the soil, but couldn't tell you which one. It's been too long of a day and I'm fried. Do some poking around online.
Because new growth being yellow isn't good for tomato plants. Older leaves turning yellow but new growth being a nice, deep green is typically okay though. Or at least for me - yellow lower leaves usually mean the plant was stressed by transplanting or me forgetting to water for a few days or something goofy.

maybe an iron deficiency...i know when we first bought this place we had to really work to get the iron up in the soil and alot of the plants were looking like you are describing, at that time. are they still in pots or did you all get them in the ground? i know you are "farming" a new spot this season...

oh and, hey jill!! hehe
