Summer Camp Physicals

If you still need to schedule sports and summer camp physicals for your kids you should take a look at Take Care Clinics. They are offering physicals for only $30 (they're usually $59) and you can just walk in without making an appt!

Why wouldn't you just schedule their annual check up with the doctor for this? My co-pay is just 10$.

Yep, that would definitely be a good idea! The Take Care Clinics would be convenient for last minute physicals if you can't get an appointment with your regular doctor.

When I was a child we didn't need physicals for camp but it seems to be more common these days. It makes the doctor's offices busy this time of year. I'm glad you were able to get in somewhere! I think the Take Care Clinic will come in handy for people that were in similar situations.

Um... because vast numbers of Americans have no health insurance?

: or if they do they are under-insured and it would end up costing them more than the $30.

For example you have a $30 co-pay and the doctor wants to do a urinalysis (which is on the physical form I have. My doc doesn't do it but some will.) So now you have to pay the lab 30% of the cost of the urinalysis if your deductible has been paid. If not... .you pay 100% of it.

Your kids have to have a physical to go to camp?! That's very odd! Must be a US thing because I've never heard of such a thing in Ontario. You don't have to have physical's for school either (my kids have never had any sort of physical).

I'd never heard of that, either. DH says he had to have one when he was a kid...also in the US.

Any time I've sent ds1 away for an overnight event (Outdoor School, Scout camp, counseling, etc.), I've just had to fill out a medical information sheet, with his Medical number, the name of our family doctor, and information regarding medical conditions, allergies, medications, etc. He has to fill those out for sports (gymnastics, Ultimate) and field trips, as well.

We had to have a physical for Girl Scout camp last year but this year they just wanted a doctors signature on a health form. I don't remember having to get one for DD1 to go to camp with the science museum. We don't haveta get physicals for school here.. although I believe they are required for school sports.

We went to the take care clinic for Rain's camp physical. It was a good experience - the woman who did it was a PA, very competent and respectful but also very sweet.

We have crappy insurance, and haven't yet paid the entire deductable for Rain, so it would have cost us over $100... and they're booked for the next 3 months for physicals anyway.Even if we had paid the deductable they still pay only 80%, so it would cost about the same.

This is for a residential camp, for 4 weeks...

Thanks for sharing and I'm glad it worked out! This is why the clinic is a good option - medical bills can be very expensive and every little bit saved helps!
