To buy or not to buy?

Should I buy this?

I've been wanting a new mattress for quite some time. I just got a sears flyer in the mail and they are having a 50% off sale on sleep sets. Usually their queen set would cost $1200, but they're selling for $600. My original limit in cost was going to be $700- I was going to buy a set from ikea. So I feel like I should buy this, right? Because I am getting a higher quality mattress for my money. Only I was hoping not to have to buy it for a while. I've been working hard to save so I feel hesitant to jump on this sale, yet I know I probably should? lol for the past year I've been sleeping on a mattress topper on the floor!

To buy or not to buy?

i would buy it... a better quality set will last longer, saving you money in the long run.

i would wait. sears has these sales a few times a year, plus local mattress places have big sales sometimes. when you have the money in hand, start tracking the sales and find the right bed for the right price.

I have the money in hand, i'm just hesitant to spend it as I dont have a TON of savings (although I do have my $1000 emergency fund, stocked sink funds and plenty for the mattress on top of that, plus zero debt) i just hesitate to spend it because i didnt designate that $ for the mattress, or anything else in particular. If I wanted to save for this from scratch though it would take me a year to save $600. not sure if i want to sleep on the floor for another year although i could wait another few months. but what would be the point? is there going to be a better sale than this??

Absolutely and then you could always get a floor model and get an EXTRA discount. That's what we did when we bought ours 6 years ago - we got a top-of-the-line mattress for $600. They had acutally made a mistake and sent us a brand new one. Double whammy!!

I think it sounds like a good purchase, especially if it would likely require another year of sleeping on the floor to save up separately for it. We were in a similar situation with our sofa recently. It was literally falling apart and we were trying to save to buy one at IKEA. We ended up finding one that was a much, much better quality than IKEA for way less than we expected to pay at Costco.com on clearance. I felt really guilty to be buying it because I've been so frugal in light of the economy but the cost was really worth it for the quality. We weren't hurting ourselves financially to get it and I really am glad that we bought the better quality because it will last so much better. So I say go for it

in this case i would buy the mattress and enjoy it. you've saved and it's time to stop sleeping on the floor and enjoy the fruits of your financial carefullness.
