Nice park around/near Silver Spring

Is there a nice park with a playground and walking trails somewhere near Silver Spring? I'm sure there is, I just don't know the area very well so I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance.

How close to Silver Spring? Does it need to be walking distance from downtown? There are a few in Takoma Park I could tell you about, but they're about 10 minute drive from downtown SS. Wheaton Regional Park is close to SS and is HUGE!

There are a ton of trails - Sligo Creek, Long Branch, Rock Creek are all near Silver Spring.

If you could tell me more about what you're looking for, I can give more specific answers.

Sligo Creek is basically a long, skinny park with a pedestrian path and lots of playgrounds along the way. That might be your best bet, for what you're describing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sligo_Creek_Trail

Rock Creek Park is another good choice, and it may be easier there to get away from cars and feel a little deeper in nature, if that's your goal. Candy Cane City is a good playground along a path there: http://www.mcparkandplanning.org/par...day_jul26.shtm

I agree with Mariposita, if you want to go a bit farther, Wheaton Regional Park has it all.

Thanks! These are exactly the kinds of places I was looking for. Not too far away at all. Thank you so much!!

ETA: Mariposita, which parks do you recommend in Takoma Park? Playground and trails are what I'm looking for, but if there's just a particularly nice park you like going to, I'd be open to that, too. I only have a two year old.

I like Wheaton Regional Park. There's great places to play, trails to walk - the ones in Brookside Garden are great too! And there's a carousel and train to boot!
