Do you keep a first aid kit in the car? - Page 2

I bought a prepackaged one and then tweaked it. I took out the pills (I'm not comfortable leaving Tylenols in the trunk for 2 years and than taking one, KWIM) I added band aids, a red washcloth (hides the blood color) and an ice pack.

Things that I have used and really like to have available are the following:

*Band aides, especially some of the huge, cover the whole knee size
*Neosporin, the one that takes the sting away
*insect bite /sting cream. The burn gel in the kit works really well for ant bites.
*sunblock
*wet wipes
*tweezers. I really like the swiss knife style.

We have a backpackers medical kit that dh takes on backpacking trips. When he's home, it's in my car. I also have a huge tub of bandaids cause sometimes you need a specific size that the med kit doesn't have. Plus, this way I won't have to remember to restock the med kit.

We use ours probably twice a month.

In my purse, though, I always carry:

Various sizes of bandaids
A tube of Neosporin
Antibacterial wipes and gel
Moleskin
Sunscreen

I've used all of these more times than I can count, and given them out to other moms/kids who've had accidents and don't have Bandaids with them.
Good idea!! So much more practical to carry it in your purse (or diaper bag)

I have one in the van, it started out as a pre-made kit and I've added things over the years. I always have Benadryl, pain reliever, arnica ointment, instant cold pack, nail clippers, tweezers, etc. I use something out of the kit at least once a month, though a lot of the time it's for other people. I check it once in a while and replace things.

Yep. We can do everything except surgery . We are often in the middle of no where, so we are prepared for some serious emergencies. And I use the meds and bandaids reglularly. We got a large 1st Aid kit from Costco and added to it. 1 in each car and 1 in the house.

I highly recommend a BOTTLE of iodine (in a car kit). That way you can pour it on a wound instead of those little wipes that just rub the dirt in more.

I also recommend the new steri strip kits! Very handy to have it all together.

I also have a little pack of bandaids, etc. in my purse that is very handy! It is a little smaller than a snack size ziplock with bandaids and anti bacterial wipes.

Here is my list of what I have in my emergency car kit (I am a list maker, so I keep track of these kinds of things). It goes beyond just first aid. I wouldn't go anywhere without it. I use it in some capacity several times a year, the first aid kit almost monthly. It looks like a lot, but it actually all fits into a relatively small tub that takes up very little room in the back of my van.

band-aids of various sizes and shapes
gauze
surgical tape
q-tips
cotton balls
alcohol swabs
antibacterial wipes
iodine
toilet paper
half roll of paper towels
large garbage bags
emergency blanket
regular blanket
flashlight
batteries
paper and pencil
flare
fire starter
waterproof matches
fix-a-flat
set of portable tools
maps
tin cup
can of sterno
packets of instant hot chocolate
set of utensils
$10 in quarters (in a Rx bottle)
emergency glow stick
burn ointment
sun screen
hydrocortisone cream
calamine lotion
benadryl
sting relief
tweezers
scissors
knife
latex gloves
instant cold pack
ibuprofen
tums
gallon of water
energy bars
crackers
peanut butter
wipes
mirror
jumper cables
bag of road salt (take it out in the summer)

Yes, it's a little off brand kit we got for a few dollars at Target.

It has:
Bandages
Bacitracin ointment
Gauze
Medical tape
Burn Gel
A cold pack
Tweezers
No-name brand antihistamine

yes! Standard stuff, plus a few kids' meds. Always benadryl.

a couple of other things that you may want to keep in there. . . tube or hydrocortosone cream (getting it on fast can make all the difference with an insect sting), tweezers, (and anything else you would need for removing a splinter), tick removing tweezers . . .

cold packs can be bought at any discount store or pharmacy.

I used to keep mine in the trunck or under the seat, now I have a the worlds boggest glove compartment so I keep it there (seriously I could fit a case of pop in there)

I always keep homeopathic arnica in my purse, as well as bandaids, and a wound ointment.

I take a more extensive first aid kit as well as a homeopathic kit if we are going farther out or overnight.

I also always keep some food, sunscreen, blankets, extra money and extra clothes in the car.

i do, out of habit, because its required in germany. our car actually came with one, but we've used it up, so i replaced it with a red cross pre packed one
post #35 of 36
It's required by law here, the car won't pass inspection without one.

I'm honestly not sure what's in it, the normal first aid stuff I'm sure. We buy the premade ones and just keep them in the car. I think ours still has the plastic wrapping on it lol.

In the car we carry: Packaged First Aid Kit (Red Cross), Emergency car kit (jumper cables, flares, help sign in English and Japanese, blanket, flashlight, orange triangles for the road), sunscreen, bug spray

In my purse: bandaids, washcloth, toilet paper (mini roll or just some from the roll), alcohol wipes, rescue remedy, hand sanitizer (for cleaning my hands before doing first aid)
