Wrap or something like it with leg openings? (aka Am I Going Crazy?)

Awhile back I was looking for help with some type of carrier I could get on my back by myself. I know pouch and ring-slings seem to be very easy, but I just don't feel comfortable because I am never sure if the fabric is where it's supposed to be (knees, back, etc). I tried a mei tai, but I'm plus sized and I could never get the straps to do what I wanted - I wanted them to go around me, cross in back, then back around for a front tie (because I'm too uncoordinated tie them behind me - I need to see what I'm doing). Yeah, as I read that I could have just wrote: I'm a big fat uncoordinated babywearing newbie

Anyway...for some reason I thought someone pointed me in the direction of some type of wrap or something, but it had leg openings and a "seat" area so to speak so that your baby was actually sitting in something and then you pulled it up and around your shoulders.

I did a google search but can't find what I thought I was looking for...

Am I out of my mind or does this product exist? Or did it ever exist?

Thanks!

Everyone's a newbie at some point, so no worries!

I have a few thoughts:
- the mei tai option could still be a good one for you, you just need one with longer straps. I also like to tie in front w a back carry, and it does need longer straps... Babyhawk makes MTs w XL straps. Any custom MT maker (eg: Kindercarry, Bamberoo, Nurslings Hemp Tai, Beanslings) would be able to adjsut the strap length to suit you. You'd still need to get your LO onto your back and then bring the MT around them - takes some practice, bt no problem once you get the hang of it.

-I don't know exactly what you're thinking of in terms of the wrap w leg openings, but the closest I can think is a Beco Butterfly. It's a 'soft structured carrier' that you can put baby in and then put onto your back like a backpack. I'm not sure how it would work with a plus sized mama, but people really like them for easy back carries.

-I'd suggest checking www.thebabywearer.com for some more info. Their forums are excellent! Also, once you decide on something, the For Sale or Trade forums have some great deals right now, so you don't have to spend an arm and a leg!

Good luck.

there are two wraps on the market with a built-in 'seat,' which have leg openings for baby. Walter's Organic Neverfail Backwrap and Bundleboo. I know there are bundleboos on clearance at www.babyslingoutlet.com for $39 (they're normally like $90)! and there's also someone over on thebabywearer selling a Walter's Organic that's been tie-dyed for like $30, but i don't remember what length that was. the Bundleboos come in a standard length, and it's nice and long.

Yay! That's it!!! Walter's Organic! I had never heard of bundleboo, but after checking them both out, that might be a better option! Thanks, mamas! MDC really does rock!
