wrap naps

DS is 7.5 mo old and a robust 21 lbs! He has always napped in a wrap. While I enjoy the closeness and convenience of him being right under my nose - my back is not so happy anymore!

I have tried getting him asleep in the wrap, waiting for limp limb, and then putting him down. He always fusses though. On rare occasions I can lay him down and lay next to him so he can nurse. However, this will only keep him asleep for about 20 minutes.

He has never nursed to sleep (I have wicked oversupply). We use a woven wrap.

Help! Sometimes I need a break and/or would just like to co-nap!

Anyone have suggestions on how to transition a wrap napper to napping other ways?

Have you tried transistioning with him in the wrap and you laying on your side? I did that with dd and I would just lay down with her still wrapped, laying on my side reading....eventually after a few weeks I was able to help her fall asleep just laying next to me in my arms and then eventually I could get up and do other things for about an hour!

Can you just lie down keeping him still tied on in the wrap? Lying on your side perhaps?

Maybe a few days of working on transitioning through the fussiness when you lie him down he'll get used to the new nap arrangement.

I will definitely try just laying down on my side with him in the wrap. He's a pretty classic high needs child and does not like it when we sit back in a chair or anything like that so we will see if this works. I figure it can't hurt to try.

Thanks!

Is he wrapped on your front or back? My 12 month old naps in a back wrap often and it is way more comfortable than on front. She weighs about the same.

He prefers the FWCC. We have tried the BWCC and it sometimes works. I guess my main problem is that I need more sleep, so I would prefer to transition him to sleeping on a bed rather than on me. That way I could at least catch some zzz's with him! I also feel like he gets disrupted when I move around which makes his naps really short (he takes about five 30 minute naps a day).
