OPK- when to start testing when CDs are not always the same?

Okay- to elaborate, I sometimes have 27 day cycles, 28 day cycles...and the last one I had was 30 days (very, very rare). It's been like this for quite a while now though until last cycle, I thought I was back to a 28 day one.
So this is my first time using an OPK. How do I figure out the best day to begin testing? Do I take the average of the past few months and figure out from there?
Help please?

I would go with the shortest one, if you have enough tests to keep going if you O later. I'm trying OPKs for the first time, and my last 3 cycles have ranged from 27 to 33 days. Being optimistic for an earlier O, I started testing on CD9. I got 20 tests online for a good price, so I can test for 10 days, twice a day. Now that I look at my chart, I may need more! I'll get some dollar tree tests if I do.

Thank you! I have 6 pack of the First Response test and am thinking of buy more so I can double up on testing, too.
