You just used an old extension cord for a clothesline because yours broke...

Your Turn!

When the wobbly shelf at work needs to be bolted to the wall and you suggest duct-taping it to save the company some money. (yeah, that didn't go over very well...)

On that same note, when a crazy drunk driver whizzes by and knocks the driver's side mirror off your husband's car and isntead of going to a mechanic he duct-tapes it back on.

We love duct-tape in our house.

You might be a frugal mama if you break off vines from the fence to tie up your tomato plants because you're too cheap to go out and buy the right string/thin rope.

your 10 year old plastic hair brush's handle breaks and your DH uses a piece of scrap wood in place of the handle.....we accidentally left it when visiting cousins in Europe (Holland - very city people) I can only wonder what they thought!

When your dog jumps the fence you decide you need a higher fence in that part of the yard. Instead of buying a taller fence you place sticks into the top slats and convince vines to grow on them to fill it in and sturdy up. But dang, it looks better too, lol.

You get lumber from 2 decks that the ILs have taken down, as well as metal railings. Build one new deck out of said lumber. Tell everyone you have a new cedar deck that is all "reclaimed lumber". Sounds trendy and green, lol.

Honestly, most of these replies seem like "you might be a cheap mama if..."

They were probably bowing down in admiration,

My DP's family are all Dutch and they are all really cheap- not saying all dutch people are but from what they tell me people are just more frugal there. My DP's grand dad just passed away, his mom went over to Holland and when she was looking through his stuff she found an old bowl with a hole in the bottom. But instead of throwing out the bowl, he had put a SCREW in the bottom to plug the hole, so there was a sharp screw sticking out inside the bowl! Now THAT is cheap! Who would eat from that thing- ouch! I mean buy a new bowl already when it gets to that point

You plan your errands for the day so you can stop by the krispy kreme for a free donut for you and the kids... that was me today.

Hey I've used a dog chain and hangers as a clothes line before. It worked wonders!

You might be a cheap mama if you quit using sposies because you run out and don't have a coupon and don't want to drive and definitely don't want to record it on your no-spend challenge post...so you start using old prefolds and too-small covers.

You might be a frugal mama if one of your staple meals is "rice with some bits of leftovers thrown in for color."

Or an old receiving blanket folded up as a flat diaper! I've done that a few times!

LOL My DH is Dutch too and he is very money-minded. HE says it's not really cheapness per se, though it can border on that. Dutch people are very practical, DH's family are not really into having knick knacks , things should have a purpose. And they love a good bargain!

I'm of the belief that anything can be used as a cloth diaper if it is clean and will absorb a pee.
